Let’s look a little deeper. There was no money saved. You can rest assured that that the overly ambitious Ms. Packwood is getting a much greater salary than Ms. Lottimore when she filled her position in DC.

Jobs for the already overburdened and grossly over staffed civil service, every department needs a director sure but in this 3 ring circus we call a civil service hardly any directors actually give direction, we have at least twice as many civil servants as we had a few years ago and what gets done quicker…NOTHING they all prance around in their government vehicles wearing expensive embroidered shirts doing lord knows how many actual productive hours in a well paid 8 hour day and I do not see a look of pride nor to I gauge a willingness to help but only catch the air of you cant touch me. Lets call it like it is Bermuda

it doesnt work like that. If she took early retirement you can bet that when another person moves in to her position perhaps thier position is not filled. They still have to sacrifice a position somewhere in that dept. You can’t not have a director, but you can however do without someone below the director. This leaves a bigger shared work load amongst that department and managers have to manage the best they can……other Government depts have done the same. Hope this answers your question.

Every department needs a director (it would be good to get rid of some departments). The director’s post would hopefully get filled as a promotion from within, and that person’s lower level post would then not be filled, achieving some kind of salary savings.

If it’s being filled internally, which it is, it is still possible that the overall headcount will shrink by one.

What’s the point of offering civil servants early retirement if the position is only going to be immediately filled by someone else?

I thought the idea of early retirement was to shrink the overall payroll.
