Don’t think it went unnoticed…

The Lamb Foggo UCC is hardly the Urgent Care Facility that the East End needs. The hypocrisy and clear politicising of this by Mrs. Foggo and the PLP is that they are asking for this centre to remain open as it is now which is a frankly glorified nose bleed, diagnostic & blood test facility.

Why hasn’t the call from Mrs. Foggo, Mr. DeSilva and those concerned with its closure not been arguing for it to become what is actually needed in the East End; an Emergency Care Facility with longer operating hours and REAL Emergency Care facilities and staff?

People should go the the BHB web site and look at what services are actually available there and the times that the place actually operates. It hardly gives one reason to feel any comfort unless you scrape your knee or feel unwell. You had better not get seriously ill as if you are fortunate enough to be ill during the sparse operating times its quite likely that there will be no Doctor on site anyway. If your illness or injury is acute they will have to send you to KEMH anyway. Lets not even mention if the causeway is closed particularly for long periods like a hurricane then you had better just call the undertakers.

Personally I am glad that it will remain open; even if it is for a few more months but if this facility is to be what is needed then the operating times and the scope of the services it provides needs to be addressed before someone dies because of the lack of services provided.

Sadly Mrs. Foggo & the PLP have led gullible people down the garden path yet again. The whole thing would be worthy of an episode on the Simpsons except it is too far fetched even for that show and surely even Homer wouldn’t fall for this. Sad Really sad.

The financials provided are unaudited because the previous BHB Board and it’s Government overseers, like with so many quangos and the pension fund, failed to be financially accountable and transparent. They failed to ensure that these accounts were audited and transparent, just as is the case for your $2 billion underfunded pension funds and their four, yes four, qualified audits on the consolidated fund. Do you understand what it means to receive a qualified audit from an auditor?

The document yesterday, from the BHB, cited in several sections that the expenses for the year a $100k profit had not been fully accountable (again due the failure to ensure an annual audit had been undertaken) for via the various cost centers for the UCC. Do you understand the concept of a cost center? Thus, due to the failure of being audited, many expenses allocated to other cost centers have not yet been charged to the UCC. So when these expenses are actually allocated to the UCC’s income statement they will more than likely wipe away the so called “profit” that Mr. Desilva and Co keep on talking about. The saddest thing is that they know the exact same thing and continue to repeat the “net profit” line to the public. I mean why would the PLP claim that it was a profitable service for the government and then in the next breath offer cost cutting options? Does that make sense to you? It also should be noted that Mr. Desilva admitted that his cost reduction suggestions would have been considered if the PLP had trained power and the “UCC was on the agenda.”

The funny thing all of what I said above was in the report which was posted on the BHB website a few weeks ago. So no secret document as some continue to claim.

Then with the BHB you had the Chief of Staff and CFO placed on administrative leave and a suspect subsidiary wound up recently. That’s a whole other story.

But either way I find it funny that you want those particular individuals’ heads to roll as opposed to the individuals that failed to ensure financial accountability and transparency or at least the people that forecasted an annual Government grant would be required to ensure it broke even, but no grants apparently came to fruition.

But Bermuda Is another world sometimes I guess.

Fighting for lamb foggo, on myown opinion, is lame…. if the problem is distance,…. somerset community should march as well to get their own urgent care clinic.. because it is the same distance they had to travel… if it is about closing of bridge, then why not just build a bridge sturdy enough to remain serviceable on hurricane days…. two birds in one stome…. we can also improve that sore in the eyes causeway…. in fact, we are able to forecast hurricane days before,,, may be then just set up temporary urgent care only ahead of forecated hurricane?

Or, can we get a statistics as to the cases being attended to… i recently had a conversation with a lady who only had HIP insurance…. she was having cough, but she said she was not able to go to emergency because there was no ride… she said now she ended up paying more in some random GP’s office…. whereas she pays less or none at all whenever she goes the ER…. on her understanding, ER is cheap so that’s where she will go oven on non-emergency cases… not knowing that the cost is actually higher… she just did not have to pay upfront…. situations like this can then eventually add to the bloated healthcare and insurance cost in Bermuda….
