The floodings are a direct result of the government failing to properly address the issues of the poorly constructed and blocked pembroke canal. It has been ineffective for decades through misuse and mismanagement. The properties and roads affected by the flooding would not have been damaged if the 'drainage canal' worked. Why is pembroke canal constantly overlooked as just a smelly, gross body of water? There are serious health implications with stagnant, waste-containing water.
Its a shame the engineers and architects who did tcd didnt have the foresight to include some kind of drainage. This area has been flooding since forever.
Or maybe they did have the foresight but someone decided to say "f**k it" instead of doing the work needed. Hmmm

@ Keepin' it Real...4Real!

You do understand and or realize that the majority of roads that flood are in low lying areas. There is a canal that runs from Mills Reach to the Pembroke Dump, just incase you didn't know.

Since they started filling in the Pembroke Dump many many many years ago into the huge mountain it is now, it seems to cause a backlog, for a better name, whenever the island experiences heavier than normal rain.

Unless you know something that the rest of us don't know, please tell us, where is all that water supposed to drain too?

As for the roads, bearing in mind, that the majority of the main roads, where cut out in the prior to the 60's, except for a few minor upgrades, the roads have never been really looked after.

Sure they get paved over every 3rd blue moon, but with the increase of motor vehicles, especially buses and tractor trailers to name a few, don't you think that its only a matter of time, before the roads, which if you really think about it, most were cut through soft stone areas, flattened with some gravel and some asphalt layered on top, started to give way, and that's taking to account all the water that has seeped into the earth.

Just thought I would enlighten you..

i'm not sure if last nights rainfall was extreme or not for our records but just remember it only rained for a few hours...supposed it rained like that for a few days...hmmm...are we prepared for that..? i hope that some have been educated by this event. It seems the major concern of most here is who is to be blamed...i can't help but see the majority of you being washed away, and instead of you all thinking of a way that you all survive, you all are arguing about WHO pulled the PLUG!
Also...isn't that what the majority of US pay taxes for..? Roads in DISREPAIR!...Fix things that are in need of fixing on this island!!!...you can't sell a Broken Item for a maximum profit. Sure sure the Island is BROKE and is in INCREDIBLE DEBT!!!...BUT WHY!!???...HUH!!???
