There have been closure of some guest houses. I do not know the total number, but I have friends/colleagues who either once have had small guest houses, or who once offered short term apartments to tourists….but who are no longer in the guest accommodation business.

Why not use “BED-NIGHTS” as a measurement of hotel occupancy? That is the only accurate way we will ever get to the truth. I am sick of listening tol the B.S.!

“In 2013, air visitor expenditure ranged from $977-$1,337 per person, down from $1,079-$1,342 per person in 2012.

“In 2013, cruise visitor expenditure ranged from $112-$124 per person, down from $119-$203 per person in 2012.”

Interesting stats, however how does the number of available beds or rooms compare to last year? Closure of guest houses could explain why hotel occupancy is up, despite have a decrease in air arrivals year to date.
