…and if you were sober but exceedingly negligent, and you ruin a life, you get a fine and a rebuke from the magistrate.

It’s ridiculous. The poor victim here has lost a limb, and the idiot who caused it, driving without due care, has almost no consequence at all.

The only one benefitting from these things is the courts-it’s ridiculous. They say crime doesn’t pay but it certainly does for our court system.

In order for Mr. Griffith to be compensated he first needs a letter of conviction, which he will now receive with the guilty verdict,either by insurance or civil . The money paid to the cort is just a fine not for him.

Argument, where in this story does it refer to anyone being ‘DUI’? Big difference and it shows clearly that if you are involved in a serious RTC and there is evidence of impairment by alcohol or a drug, you stand a good chance of prison….

In 2011 another man (also DUI) hit an innocent man causing two fractures to his leg. It was not amputated but this man got 15 months in jail!? Some would argue it was not enough.

This mans actions cause his leg to be amputated and he gets a $2,000 fine and 18 months off the road!!!! Where is the consistency?

A $2000 fine for maiming someone, and changing their life completely? He could have killed him. What about the pain and suffering and cost of hospital bills and prosthesis? The legal system here is complete BS.

he should have been charged with bodily hard. Same old Bermuda do 70kph 12 months off the road run a red light causing a man bodily harm get 18 months off the road. Chris lost a damn leg for this mans stupidity. His life will be negatively impacted forever and in 19 months this man wont even remember his VICTIM’S name. OIB

Mr. Griffiths gets what is stated on Mr. Tacklyn’s insurance policy. He can sue for more but in Bermuda you don’t get the millions like you would in the USA.
If Mr. Tacklyn did not have insurance then the MIF surcharge that we all pay on our vehicle insurance comes into effect.

I would have taken my chances in the US. I doubt they would have amputated the leg as quick as Bermuda would!
