My Dad is one of those older fellows and him and the other retired men and women have sat off on the square for years even before there was shade. Sometimes they are joined by retirees outside St. Georges after they have been in the bank. He is in his 80′s and when it is good weather it gives him something to do. Sometimes he tells me about his chats with the tourists who ask questions about Bermuda. He said everyone is nice and respectful and they get a kick of hearing the stories and also the gossip.

The rummies hang out over on Ordanance Island and down on the dock.

X man is right. — it’s not right to call the peolple that sit down the Towne Square Bums.
I allways drive though the Square and occassionaly stop there to talk to some of the elders so I know were
the Rummies hang out to. – the Rum Bums hang out near the Ferry Wharf area and over Ordnance Island.

Methinks thou doth protest too much x man. The older people won’t want to hang around when the rumbottles turn up. I am ‘elderly and was recently in Portugal where I noted the obvious absence of seating in their very pretty public squares. A local took me around the corner and showed me the reason for their recent removal – Rummies, male and female clogging all available sitting space on nearby steps, looking for the odd Euro or two. Be careful what you wish for!

Not all upscale people are over conservative stiff’s.– they like a little Island thing.
Several of my friends who are very upscale and got $$$$$$ – who visit here find stuff like this very relaxing and a break from there every day uptight life in the USA.
I learned over the years that my friends – several of them who are millionaires actually come here and enjoy
a lot of the basic things that we either take for granted or we don’t like.

who have made there contribution to society.

Not everything has to be made of concrete or made from a Factory
I bet you a lot of our Visitors will think its cute.
To a Visitor the Idea may be very appealing – even to those who are so called upscale !

Town Bum’s ! -thats not right !
A lot of those people that sit down the Square are retired elderly Bermudians who have earned the right to sit down
there and fellowship —- for the most part all of the elderly people I know that go there to relax are harmless, and respectable.
Watch out now – your talking about somebody’s grandperents of Mother and Father.
I looked at the top photo very closely and saw the Person who Painted and worked on Motor Vehicals for 40 years before
he retired ,- he was a person who trained many a young man how to do there trade.
I emailed this Article to several friends who live in the Northeast USA – all of which are professionals and all of which
come to Bermuda often and they thought the Idea was great.- to them it looks the Island thing’
