The dropping of the two bombs killed over 200,000 either instantly or due to radiation exposure there after while there where only 3,500 Japanese kamikaze raids . Japan rejected unconditional surrender but was open to conditional surrender before the bombs where dropped. Many military strategist made mention that Japan was already to their knees & couldn’t hold out much longer even if the bombs weren’t dropped. The belief was the dropping of the bombs was more of a show of strength to the Soviet Union who had entered the war against Japan, which just may have been the trigger to the Cold War.

NO PROOF THAT IS HAMAS, NO PROOF THAT IS even in Palestine and NO PROOF THAT a rocket was actually fired from what looked like a smoke machine. If it was indeed Hamas then WHY In THE WORLD would the news anchor not film the entire set up to launch? Where is the actual rocket launcher? Where’s the rocket? Give me a break! Don’t you find it odd that Even the IDF soldiers aren’t aware of where Hamas sets up their rockets but a pakistani news anchor just happens to pass and see one. Puh lease. The Germans bombed civilians in their major cities.

Interesting that you mention the A bombs killing innocents, but make no mention of the firebombing of Tokyo, which killed more people than both bombs.

Reading all the above comments only backs my original blog on questioning this event.
I agree, people have the right to their opinion; however a Political Group representing many Bermudians SHOULD NOT be shown to be supporting one side or the other in this conflict.
Mr. Brown has a right to his opinion; but why on behalf of the PLP???? He is NOT Party Leader. There has not been any meetings or vote to represent the Party Supporters on which side they take. As a PLP supporter I would be offended by such an event being held by my party. Can you imagine the OBA on behalf of the Bermuda Government making such a statement????
You can argue until the cows come home on the lesser of the two evils engaged in this conflict which has been taking place in one form or another, since the beginning of time.
Support the innocent and stand for peace but to pick a side is reckless and irresponsible.
Remember Hamas won a majority of seats in the Palestinian Parliamentary Elections (2006 ousting Fatah) so they are the Government representatives of the Palestinian people.

Israel killed 300 civilians only to admit later that the 3 israelis were NOT killed by Hamas which was their first reason behind attacking Gaza. So why are they STILL there? They then claim is because fired rockets first. If they did, the rockets killed NO one yet they killed an additional 600 people. The world condemned Israel for the attack so they called for a seize fire WITHOUT HAMAS BEING PRESENT. They then claimed that Hamas broke the size fire by kidnapping one of their IDF militants so they bomb a UN SHELTER after they were told 17 times the location of the innocent civilians who were there to which their response was oops, 6 schools with children and loads more killing a total of 1800 people mostly Children and babies. But the most obvious part that this is genocide is it comes out that the soldier was never kidnapped but was killed a while back. Again Israel says oops! Their method is KILL NOW AND APOLOGIZE LATER!

If this group are going to take on the complexities of Hamas versus Israel, maybe they should start with the Ebola outbreak in West Africa that now stands at over 800 deaths and could end up killing tens of thousands. At least there is the connection with Africa, but what Walton has in common with Israel or Hamas is zero.
If anything, he will put Bermudians travelling to Israel in the Immigration office for 2 hours of questioning and possibly a quick exit out of the country.

How do your comments in any way follow? So what if the UK and US’s position on this is one of unequivocal support? The overwhelming majority of the rest of the world take a different stand. And what if the UK and US position is regarded by many as morally reprehensible and wrong? Are you suggesting that the fact that the US and UK say one thing should be determinative of the matter? That we, as Bermudians, cannot take a position at odds? As the UK is responsible for our foreign policy, we have every right to take issue with that foreign policy if we so chose. You might also care to know that Cameron’s position on the matter actually represents a major departure from the UK’s traditional stance on the Israel-Palestine issue, and from the position of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. There is no consensus witin the British Government on the matter. So much so that a senior Conservative official resigned this week from Cabinet.

And if you think that somehow a few private citizens and an opposition MP taking a position at odds with the US would undermine our balance of trade … that’s just silly beyond belief.

Wow – can you all not distinguish between Hamas and the Palestinians over whom they rule? In no way is this local group purporting to stand up and and support the former. Rather they are drawing their attention to real suffering. And in any event, that Hamas is a vile, vicious and brutal terroristic group is not in dispute, but how does that obviate the need for the IDF to exercise a greater degree of proportionality in its military campaigns?

Please let’s have a proper discussion, but calling Palestinians terrorists or refusing to stand in solidarity with them – that just completely betrays your lack of understanding of facts on the ground.
