It failed because we didn’t support it enough and shop there. Busy spending our dollar elsewhere. Bring a small CO-OP back there’s room for it in today’s market….

I wish the PLP would open a grocery store and show everyone how it is done.
They could offer 20% off on Wednesdays.We will,then see how long they would be in business as the grocery stores make so so much $$$$$$.

I’d sure like to be wrong but I can’t help but think that the supermarkets will compensate for the 10% ‘discount’ by booting up the markup percentage.

I know that it is a very competitive business & importation costs are high but I am also familiar with retail US supermarket prices & Bermuda retail prices often leave me scratching my head as to how these prices are arrived at.

So get the BIU to start a supermarket. I’m sure they have the expertise, as they’re all geniuses. Sell everything for 10% less than anyone else. Employ only Bermudians. Unionize them, give them 14 weeks sick pay, 7 weeks vacation, guarantee their continued empoyment for life. Give them index-linked pensions. And sell your groceries for 10% less than anywhere else.

It can’t fail, can it? Come on, big mouths. Show us all how it’s done.

It’s crazy!! It’s almost like the are BUSINESSES trying to make profits!!!!!! Sure see a Lot of fancy phones, cars, shoes, etc out and about that have 10 times the markup grocery stores do. Don’t other about about the insurance company profits, belco, cablevision, etc. shop better and smarter Bermuda! Prices increase when they increase in the states

Makes you wonder why the BIU doesn’t open a supermarket for its members and show us how it’s all done. I’m sure those geniuses could undercut everyone else’s prices by at least 10%. Staff with only Bermudians, pay top wages, 14 weeks sick pay, 7 weeks vacation, index linked pensions, and guarantee employment for life for all staff. Come on, show us how to run a REAL business.

A big thank you to the participating stores . Any percentage break is better than none and as a member of the now unemployed ranks I make absolutely certain that I buy 99% of my groceries on Wednesdays.

The only issue is , come February next year we’re still going to be living in a depressed economy and there is still going to be a huge need for this .

why can’t they give discounts everyday? They make enough from the mark ups that they put on products. I think that the one day a week discount is a joke especially for the seniors who are having a hard time with what they make from their pension.
