Don’t forget how they were tortured first, for hours.

To suggest that police riot squads were out whenever members of the black power movement held a meeting is ludicrous.

And as for the so-called “weekend clashes between black youth and their souped-up bikes and the infamous police cycle squad” that is just plain “funny”! From what I can recall, the Police Cycle squad was formed to deal with the huge amount of thefts of motor cycles and cycle parts which then plagued Bermuda and was committed by both black and white youths. Yes, the Cycle Squad also chased after those young men who illegally souped up their bikes and sped all over the Island. As Alvin says, who can forget those late night races on McGall’s Hill, Shelley Bay straight, or Middle Road in Southampton.

Tragically, there were many young men either killed or injured on our roads at a time when crash helmets were not required, but most grew up and went on the become law abiding citizens as did many of those who were involved in the black power movement.

Times have moved on and we all have to work together to stop this senseless gun culture amongst a small number of young men. It is time to stop blaming the Police, or the Government of the day, and do whatever we can to make sure these young men have the opportunity to grow old gracefully.

These idiots are shooting and killing each other. If the idea of a violent death doesn’t deter them from this behavior, I don’t think the idea of life in prison is either.

To suggest that it is only after a “Government jeep” is shot at that the Police are now taking gun violence seriously is both ludicrous and downright false.

Those persons who need to take this rampant gun violence seriously are those who see or hear potentially useful information and they need to make sure to pass it on to the Police so they can compile the evidence and present sufficient evidence in court to secure convictions.

I should add that this is one area where our politicians are speaking with one voice. They are all condemning this terrible scourge of senseless violence and want to see it stopped. Both parties have supported the Police Service, and long may they continue to do so.

As for that person is hiding, how long can he hold out? Where can you hide in Bermuda? You’re only delaying the inevitable and showing yourself to be the coward you truly are.

Perhaps we should be paying for jurors to be flown in … costly, but at least the convictions will happen.

I don’t think he will be a problem in Bermuda ever again unless he is deported.

They need to be more robust with their armed patrols in at least 6 land rovers and be prepared to be on the road almost 24/7

some will disagree, but the NI tactics of the British Army- especially surveillance and aggressive patrols need to be constant, unpredictable and effective.
