The Team NZ announcement was not unexpected. Bermuda’s location was chosen to help cater to the European market, which has four teams. There’s more money to be made off of the European rights compared to New Zealand and Australia. Not good for the Aussies, who pulled out, and the Kiwis, but great for the other four countries. If there was more money to be made off of the South Pacific nations, San Diego would have been chosen to host the event at the expense of the Europeans.

i’m not so sure of bob’s initial outlook on returns from hosting this event, already team nz has cut over 20 mil. from their budget, with every team member taking a significant pay cut… sponsors pulling out, and its still early days, the acbda office isn’t even open yet.

Can someone explain the Legacy Benefits of shared sense of pride, I hope its not like the shared sacrifice.

Yikes. The info graphic leads one to believe this is going to be a very well organised event with many spinoffs and opportunities for the “glass half full” crowd. For the rest – google America’s cup. Pick yourselves up, dust off and be the change you want to see. No good being an Israelite wondering the desert for 40 years complaining about how good it used to be. This is an opportunity like no other!
