Bermudians are so cute! They amaze me at how laid back they are when it comes to weather related stuff…But seriously, it seems like the flooding is getting worse as the years go by… I’m just curious if there have been climate talks…if that flooding had occurred in my neighbourhood (NYC) they would probably declare a state of emergency… idk… I’m Bermudian and grew up right on the water so I love the elements but I’m definitely concerned about the effects of climate change…

@ Expat, well maybe we’re tired of being treated like second class citizens in our own country, employers want to pay us slave wages like the cheap labor that’s dying to get out of their poverty stricken countries and minimum or no benefits, paying sky rocket rent or mortgage, hour cuts or job cuts and people like the CEO of the B.T.A making $1,000 a day and you want us to sit up and look like Johnny Barns.
Well generally we are friendly but that is soon running out and you might get the shock of your life.

My biggest bonus was $1,000 in 2009 which just happened to be the same year I received my last cost of living raise! On top of that I do not make the average civil servant salary of $78k.

Not everyone in the private sector gets bonuses. In my employment I haven’t had a bonus in 4 years. So yes the Driver should shut it and do their job. Everyone has a role to play!

Bus drivers are among the most unfriendly of our civil servants and their driving, reading (stop signs) and color recognition (red lights) leave a lot to be desired, but they will strike when the toilet get backed up!

You should also mention the bonuses at the end of the year and the well paid people you work for who will fire you without notice to keep their profit margins the same year over year.

Mention how even if you are doing the best job in the company you can still be ushered out the door because if you can work from home that means someone can do your job from New Delhi.

Then after all that say just how jealous you are that your colleagues would NEVER defend your right to keep your job……don’t hold back next time…..get it all of your chest if you have to listen so should they…..it’s called shared sacrifice right??

This road has only had traffic lights for two years – I mean what do people expect? These things take time you know. Its only been since early 2013 that the traffic lights have been there.

Thats only a hundred weeks, 24 months. Hardly an inconvenience at all really.

For most of us that only about 500 workdays – so only 1000 stops at the traffic lights. I mean give them a chance – they’ll fix it eventually.

I do turn 65 in 2019 though – just sayin.

Agreed we cant control mother nature! But watch after the rain how many W & E employees will be out there probably getting overtime cleaning the drains. When this should be done on a scheduled calendar! Just like everything else, wait until it happens then try to reverse it..

Why doesn’t OBA do something about all this rain? It is causing flooding all over the place – its as if the OBA government just doesn’t care.

I’m sure if the PLP was in power they would have done something to make this rain disappear. After all, they did a good job on that $800 million didn’t they?

Who says PLP is good for nothing? Bring em back I say – they’ll fix us good and proper.

On my bus ride this morning, I was treated to a rant about how some of the routes are not running because drivers call in sick, and no one will cover them because they do not get paid overtime anymore.

I wanted to remind her that most employees in the private sector do not get paid overtime, and when I’m sick, I have to work from home. Good thing I bit my tongue though, no one likes to hear the truth!

Sadly this issue has been around for at least ten years and nothing done. A drain pipe laid to divert water to pond. TCD issue was bad engineering parking lot should have been raised. WooDlands road , mills creek and areas around it will never be solved due to the tides. They know yesterday this rain was coming. W and E should hv been out clearing drains from debris to help with drainage in many areas.

My female colleague (new to Bermuda) crossed the road in the pouring rain while the bus driver waited for her. Nice.

She then stood by the doors waiting for them to open and the bus driver looked at her, shook her head, and drove off; leaving my colleague in the pouring rain for another 15 minutes for the next bus.
