i don’t recall anyone saying that this was bad news or a bad idea to upgrade, now if the headlines had read, “Sept. 2015 Shelly Bay Beach House to undergo extensive upgrades for the coming year Summer of 2016 for tourists and locals alike…blah blah blah” ,then i wouldn’t have a problem. i noticed that a lot of people come here rehearsed or it seems as such…mind already made up type of thing…read and comprehend please, thanks.

I believe the property formerly known as Clayhouse Inn, the New Clayhouse Inn, the New New Clayhouse Inn etc…lol… is owned by the family of the late Dame Lois Browne Evans. It would be great to see it redeveloped! There was news of renovations (on Bernews I believe) but nothing has happened. At this point, I believe that building is to far gone, is unsafe and needs to be demolished before some homeless person is hurt attempting to seek shelter or some curious kids are hurt playing in there.

It would be awesome to see it come back to life! It was a fun place to hang out at back in the day.

Someone put forward plans to renovate the Clayhouse Inn property a while back, haven’t heard any updates on that. But really, that place is a major eyesore and something ought to be done about it.

As a person who grew up in Hamilton Parish many years ago, one of my fondest memories from my childhood are the many picnics that my mother and her friends hosted at Shelly Bay Beach. I would swim all day in the kid friendly waters at Shelly Bay, only coming out to enjoy a delicious standard picnic meal of potato salad, fried chicken, cole slaw and red Koolaid drink.

Shelly Bay Beach is truly a special spot because of its super calm, low waters – it is perfect for families with young kids and those who are not expert swimmers.

I am really glad to hear that these beach facilities are going to be revitalised.
At a minimum shouldn’t all public beaches have some type of bathroom facilities?
Then considering that we are looking to increase our tourism numbers its nice to know that this public beach which catches everyone’s eye as you pass by it, will be bolstered with a restaurant and beach rental equipment.

You can only get people to inject their time and money into a project when there is someone will to do so. Why renovate a building to just have it sit empty and before you know what he occupants need and want? Renovating a business property is not like renovating a home for rent.

Nothing like planning ahead as summer is already here and this project wont be finished until next year.
More BORROWED money being thrown at something that is not viable,if it was viable it would already be up and running..
Government controlled again.
The economy will never return with such a HUGE Government sucking the life out of everything.
We are still borrowing $220Million per year to keep the Government going.

The entrepreneurs are the ones putting up the big money, $1 million and hence the risk. The govt is merely providing some basic requirements like working toilets etc. Whatever limited funding the Government is providing is much needed as the area has been neglected for years. Do you actually want our tourism infrastructure to be improved and revitalized, or shall we just leave it down there to look like a wasteland?

Based on what I read elsewhere, the concessionaire’s renovation plans were stalled because the government approval process was slow. He had hoped to be open in time for Bermuda Day. Not so lucky. Slowed by red tape.
