You still have the right to temain silent. There is still a presumption of innocence, The burden of proof is still on the prosecution.

No Mildred the stationary walls are not the problem. It is the walls that are not playing fair. They are moving & people are colliding with them. It is the Planning Depts fault. Wall foundations are not strong enough to stop them from moving around. Same problem with BELCO’s utility poles. People keep colliding with them too.

Also, I notice many accidents involve a vehicle hitting a wall. If Government simply took all these walls down this type of accident would stop immediately.

But I don’t expect government will do anything about it as usual.

Of course it’s still business as usual. Politicians put out canned press releases (with pretty much the same verbiage every single time), asking people to slow down, and people pretty much ignore them.

And this goes back to the previous administration. Yes, the PLP tried worthy initiatives such as the mandatory seatbelt law and the points/demerit system for licences, but as far as discouraging bad driving habits and encouraging good ones, neither political party has anything to be proud of in this regard.

Government leaders and the Police are the only groups that can put policy and enforcement into place. And they’ve been lacking in that capacity.

Regarding crime, yes there’s only so much the powers that be can do. The police appear to have worked on their public image in recent times, hopefully that will have a positive effect when it comes to the public reporting what they see and hear.

Roban is wringing his hands with ‘concern’ about shots fired and a bank robbery.

In other news today, the PLP wants the Governor to refuse to sign legislation that reforms the criminal law. The PLP objects to measures that make life a little less easy for accused criminals to get off.

And Roban will keep wringing his hands and say “someone should DO SOMETHING”.

The Police could eliminate the gunshootings if they would just simply confiscate the bullets when people bring these guns in.

Think about what you wrote for even a moment. Could you image being strapped down on a bike with nothing to protect you, like other road vehicles have, in an accident. There would be even more road carnage.
The main problem with cycles, is that too many people take chances/ risks and put other road users at risk at the same time.
People just need to slow down, plain n simple.

And while we are at it we should change our driving to be on the right so we are like the rest of the world. We could make it voluntary for the first 12 months just like the seatbelt law.

Enacting the seatbelt law was a positive move in road safety, but motorcycles still don’t have seatbelts. Why now I’d like to know. I’d like to know.

So using your logic Mr. Deacon, its just business as usual huh?
It amazes me that someone who worked for the local press for so long, can be so one sided and blind in his thinking.
Other than the seatbelt law which was successfully put into place under the PLP, what else would you like to have seen. Speed bumps every 50 feet?
If people obeyed the rules of the road, there would be far less accidents and carnage on the roads.
The same goes for violence, CCTV cameras were installed under the PLP, but I guess you expect there to be a policeman on every neighborhood corner 24/7
Since you had and probably still have access as a reporter, why don’t you write an opinion piece for Bernews. I am sure it would be well received as long as its unbiased and factual.
