My husband was in Hamilton at the day that this entertainer arrived…. and he said that people were walking around holding their noses !!!!! he said the stench was disgusting…… and today in Southampton it did smell like a dead whale… two sides to a story.

Please do not come back to Bermuda until you are ready to be respectful to this country. The speed with which you denegraded Bermuda illustrates your ‘ignorance’ (lack of knowledge) and prejudice of other cultures. I will not call for a concert refund as others have done as that would be punitive to the other artists of the evening who were kind respectful and appreciative of this beautiful island.
If you Mr.Cristopher Leacock – are truly remorseful for your negative, prejudicial comments and have reversed your views as you have professed in the media – then I challenge you sir. I challenge you to ‘put your money where your mouth is’ – that is make a charitable donation to one of the many registered Bermudian charities that work to preserve the beauty of Bermuda. Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB), Save Open Spaces, Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce (BEST) are a few suggestions for you.
If you do not accept this challenge, well I can only say that to myself and to many others (as evidenced already in the media), that is the words you initially bespoke are proof of the hollowness of your supposed apology; the emptiness of your honor and even more so the farcical nature of your “PEACE IS THE MISSION” motto. Remember a key element of peace is respect..

Bermuda isn’t in the Caribbean. It’s closer to Montreal than it is to Miami. Bermuda’s “roots” are that of a military outpost of the British Empire, a midway point between Newfoundland in the north and the Caribbean holdings to the south. Bermuda did once have a strong connection to the Turks Islands, and to a lesser extent Barbados, but not to Trinidad or Jamaica.

I have lived in Bermuda and agree that the people are less than friendly. They like to assure the world that they are indeed friendly, godly people but this is a facade. The island is, in my mind, like a Potemkin village – all shine and smiles to the $$$ spending tourists but woe betide anyone who dares to speak out. I knew of several ex-pats who were thrown off the island for expressing their views. Free speech is non-existent here. And just look how these so called friendly people have attacked this man -showing their true colors. Lesser known ‘celebrities’ make inflammatory remarks all the time just to raise their profile and most intelligent folk would ignore it -but the twisted, sore and corrupt belly of Bermuda is grumbling again. I have a thousand stories of my time there and may even put it all in a book one day, the things I experienced there would make your hair curl.. Bermuda you’ve made your bed, now lie in it. You thought you’d get away with it forever but the past is catching up with you and people are beginning to see you for what you are. A greedy corrupt unpleasant place.

For one, when you come to Bermuda – you can see all of Bermuda! When you go to many other destinations , you can’t explore and get to know the people, or any part of the country that isn’t a “tourist” destination and part of a tour.?! Why, because many of the hotels are surrounded by large walls or have armed security guards. To explore outside the gates of the hotel property in many parts of the world is not safe and borderline suicide. Not true everywhere, but certainly true in many of the caribbean islands.

He’s only a visitor in the sense that he’s not from here. He is, in fact, paid to be here.

Most celebrities who come to the island are thrilled that they don’t get mobbed. It is actually considered part of Bermuda’s charm.

The immediate gratification factor is a very broad ranging effect in the western world.

I’m not certain what you mean about people bumping into others and not introducing or not including the others in their group. Really, unless it’s happened to you you don’t really know what’s in the minds of those involved.

Are Bermudians friendly as heck? Most of ‘em, yep. It’s their default nature, but hey, everyone has their off days. Also… sometimes what you get depends upon what you expect.

I’m sorry… most Bermudians know it takes a minute to get anywhere. We have a set speed limit n if he was housed at South P it takes 30 mins or more to get there. This is not Trinidad or the US. The island is small and we don’t drive 60 or 70 mph. Get a clue. We don’t have limos for use like that so you either ride in a taxi or the pink n blue. Get over yourself….

My first thought is that either you didn’t put yourself out there or that you didn’t meet Bermudians with enough similar tastes or both.

That said, living in Bermuda isn’t for everybody. It’ll never work if you need to have the bustle and opportunity of city life.

But did you complain about the weather in the first couple of days? Were you affronted because you felt you deserved better from the people who brought you here than you got in the first couple of days? Did you hit up social media where you’re read by thousands?

It’s about perspective.

Bermuda outshines most Caribbean islands by having a stronger dollar value and modern infrastructure, other then that we cant compete with them.

However, we cannot control what people feel or say but instead thank them for visiting and take the high road-learn and move on. I have to agree with him, I came to Bermuda as an expat and could not last 2 months, I felt like a dead man. The lack of nightlife, entertainment, women, among other things is unbelievable. People there try to make you feel bad if you do not like it but it is not a normal place to live or even visit. Also, I am not trying to be mean here

Truth is when I first came to Bermuda, as lovely as it is, the attitude of a lot of the people was very disappointing. While so many people here think that Bermuda has it all locked down as the friendliest place, its not. I can understand this Jillionaire’s perception that he gets off the plane and is greeted by people who want to see someone else. That is rude. That doesn’t make a good first impression on a visitor to the island. But that seems to be people’s attitude today. No consideration for anyone else but for their own immediate gratification. How many times do you see people who are with other people bump into each other in the street and stop to talk but the rest of their group stands around waiting, not being introduced? Its a hard concept to illustrate or define but I tell you its seems pretty unique to Bermuda, and I’ve been to a lot of different countries.

Yep. When someone arrives after two plane rides and just wants to get to their hotel, what they secretly desire is an hour-long ride around on a rainy afternoon to see stuff they have no interest in.
It’s probably that poor judgment by the taxi driver that caused the rest of the comments.
