Actually, a new airport is of urgent need, quit looking out the window at the sky and take a good look at the infrastructure and condition of our current airport and you would realize that it is past its lifespan and on borrowed time. It is only going to get more expensive to keep that one running.

Here is perhaps the saddest part: the PLP hierarchy are not saying this stuff because they are cynical or disingenuous – they are saying it because they are that convoluted and warped – they believe the crap they are coming out with. That’s what makes these guys so unlikely to succeed at anything they ever get their hands on, God Help Us (I’m certain the PLPs election the first time was God’s revenge for taking too much for granted).

Indeed, I was thinking exactly that the other evening whilst walking around what used to be the St. George’s Golf Club course. This course used to be a source of relaxation for locals and visitors from across the island, had a thriving bar and restaurant at the 19 th hole, kept folks employed, etc. In one fell swoop this was all shut down and abandoned thanks to whatever it was Brown and Bazarian were up to that never happened. If the PLP want a public meeting and investigations about abuse of process, etc, start here first.

Perhaps Mr. Burt can refer to Delloite’s cover letter which sets out the reason they were engaged in the first instance.

“We are pleased to submit this Final Report on the business case for developing the Bermuda Airport Development. This Final Report maps the existing analysis and documentation on the proposed Bermuda Airport Development, as provided by the Government of Bermuda, to the required contents of the Five Case model in a Full Business Case. It then presents a gap analysis of the existing documentation on the Bermuda Airport Development against the requirements of a Full Business Case.”

“We understand that the Government of Bermuda is not yet ready to make a Gate 3 investment decision, and has the opportunity to close the gaps we have identified before entering in to contracting for the concession with the selected private sector supplier. We believe that addressing the key gaps in our analysis will add substantial value to the project, both by improving Value for Money for the Government of Bermuda, and by reducing risk.”

The Government hired Deloiite to undertake a gap analysis to provide a framework to ensure best practice is followed. The UK have provided a timeline for adherence, a significant factoid which the PLP failed to disclose, either due to ignorance or deceit.

So the PLP’s suggestion that Government has “yet to fulfill the requirements of the Letter of Entrustment” is purposely misleading and designed solely to further their disinformation campaign. It’s akin to admonishing a student for not yet turning in their 2016 year end thesis.

I seems to me the PLP has lost the plot, they keep harping on about government not meeting the requirements for the letter of Entrustment, but they only need to meet that to sign the contract. Something they are still at least a year away from. That is a year to ensure they can fill all the gaps they had identified when they commissioned the Deloitte report to provide them with. And the deficiencies were not that numerous, a word the PLP seems to like using whenever they have something negative to propagate.
