The pretty boy with a good? name is going to be the biggest mistake Canada has made since…well…the last time a guy with the same last name was elected.

Simply put, pull out and put your money elsewhere as you have the freedom to do so if you feel the risk has increased significantly. I can assure you that what you sell, someone else will buy because the ecnonmics are still there.

You like to use the term fools but yet you are happily sitting in the UK. Why don’t you come home to Bermuda (assuming you are from here) and fix everything since you seem to know more than everyone else? Ah yes, because you are sitting in the UK and it is easier to sit there and tell everyone what is wrong versus being in the thick of it. Another armchair critic.

True capitalism does not even work for the US (they are much more broke than Canada with 18 Trillion and counting as debt)and a true democracy is having people vote on matter that concern them all not letting special interests as happens many times. But then again, I am a leftie because you are omnipotent and know better than everyone!

Everyone seems to think that the Liberals ran the economy into the ground. I look forward to Justin either living up to what was stated here or blowing it out of the water.

Good to see that everyone is given a chance to prove themselves before judgement is passed.

But more fundamentally, Bermudian politics doesn’t align itself neatly with a left-right dichotomy, so it might be difficult to make any comparisons.

Having said that if there is a liberal voice in Bermuda, it is most certainly the OBA – both economically and socially (though it could improve on the latter) and I mean classical liberalism as understood in Europe and Canada – not as all-embracing moniker for lefties as in the US.

In contrast to the Conservatives’ nastiness, identity-driven racially insensitive campaigning and ‘power-at-all-costs’ mentality.

When Trudeau the elder handed the reins to Mulroney in 1984, net public debt as a percentage of GDP was 37.5%. By the time Mulroney left office, it ballooned to 62.9%. Around that time, the Economist called Canada an honourary member of the 3rd World.

From then until 2006, when Harper took over, the Liberals brought that figure down to 34.1%, where it’s hovered since.

The point is that there is this persistent myth out there that the Liberals are bad for the economy and the Conservatives are good. The number just do not tell that story.

Furthermore, Trudeau never said he would increase debt. What he did say was that he would run 3 years of budget deficits to help finance infrastructure projects by taking advantage of some the lowest interest rates in history to (1) help spur short term employment and (2) build up the country’s infrastructure stock which has been under-financed for a generation.

First off, what Justin said was that he would run deficits and invest in the infrastructure of the country which needs to be renewed. Sounds like a sound investment to me especially when companies are fighting to invest in that stuff also. The deficits would run for 2 or 3 years and then the budget would be balanced.

For your informaiton, under the Prime Minister, Jean Chretien – Liberals by the way, they balanced the budget and ran surpluses for many years.

Under most circumstances, I was in agreement with what you wrote. With this, definitely not because you seem to be making a lot of assumptions and not quoting proper information.
