Well said Joaquin. Reading the article it looks like a good idea but with the certain requirements needed I don’t think its realistic that people can get what is needed in time. And I think the powers that be know this. Safety first, YES, But I think they can loosen the reigns a bit so more people can financially benefit AND if that is the real reason why wasn’t this announced sooner so that people COULD?

Its the law that any charter vessel over a certain length must have a licensed pilot on board – good luck on finding those at such short notice

Licensed skipper is a must I would say but since we are inshore maybe a little leniency on some of the usual requirements after all this is very short notice. Insurance companies would need to formulate a short term coverage otherwise it would not be cost effective at all. Really two working days is not enough time to make it work. But this is good ground work going forward-perhaps everyone who operates a vessel can get some certification!

So I have a licensed boat as it is my business.i pay a fee,had to get captains license, boat inspected ,insurance etc and now any Joe blow can do it.No insurance,no captains license….seriously??!!

agreed.. any if a newly “licensed boat” is found to be lacking any of the above mentioned equipment, fire the person who licensed it..i.e. Marine and Ports examiner

As a former tourboat operator, no problem. Just make sure that anyone plying for hire is a licensed skipper, carrying the required insurance (not cheap), & the boat has all of the SOLAS saftety gear like type 1 PFDs (very expensive), in date type 1 flares (very expensive) & required fire gear (not cheap).

Anyone found taking people for hire without proper licenses should be fined heavily. Anyone wanting to hire should demand to see required licenses for their own safety.

I guess you would be happy if somebody who has a bunch of frequent flyer miles or some other high air miles perk, flies the plane cause there are not enough qualified pilots to go round.
