I didn’t miss it….I commend it. The post office is ancient technology and I am suprised so much money is still spent on it. Even a poor downtrodden fellow like yourself has internet. I don’t get bills in the mail any more, they are all online. If I have something to send overseas, I courier it. Basically you are of the opinion that a loss making system is fine because it employs people. Full stop. That is why you should stay away from economics and stick with the lastest cool dance.

The Postmaster General cut the budget by 30% and yet only one small post office is affected. Well done Postmaster General!

You know if you read through the comments it’s clear Bermudians will never recover. Comments all outline that everyone speaks from the “how it affects me” perspective.
We don’t need the post offices!! This statement clearly came from the perspective that every one has computers and the Internet. News flash that is not the case many seniors and some regular low income individuals don’t. Plus many small businesses survive by utilizing the local postal services. Courier services are much to pricey for small businesses.
Then we have government bashing everyone screams government is a fail why because the need to miraculously reverse 14 years of mismanagement of government funds and services” government that the tax payers elected let’s not forget”. But we want this new government to come in and fix in in two minutes “” but no one wishes to sacrifice anything that affects them in order to get out of the current mess.
Ignorant statements like we don’t need the BPO who have been heavily cut over the last year already plus selfish people who want it all fixed with out taking any personal sacrifice is the reason IMHO Bermuda will never recover from it current chaos

I changed all my bills and statements to electronic when this first started and removed my mail box from my gate. I tell anyone who wants to mail me something to send it via e-mail or a courier. If they do not want to deliver mail that is ok. Keep cutting a department that is irrelevant and can’t seem to change with technology. I hope the postal workers and their management are happy with their eventual unemployment.

I should clarify. The truck won’t drive down my road because of the neighbor who can’t keep his hedge cut back bordering my lane but doesn’t actually live on my lane. You know, because the truck might get scratched. It already smells like a** but let’s not scratch it. It gets scratched…boom a job has been created. Actually it’s “goverbment”, 6 jobs have been created. One to spray and five to give unwanted advice on how to spray a truck.

We were told sometime ago that we had to install mailboxes outside our homes and close to the road.What is the point of us going to that expense if the mail has not been delivered for the last six weeks and it does not look as if there will be any resolution in the near future.So much for progress.

Let’s see… If my memory serves, the SAGE committee reported that mail volumes were dropping by about 7% every year (one million pieces of mail) and they voiced the view that mail volumes at the sub post offices would be insignificant by 2015. They also stated their belief that the BPO was over staffed by 80%!! They also recommended that the BPO be reduced to three post offices and that mail delivery cease.

Has any of that come to pass?

Seems to me they should be plenty capable of handling the lower mail volume they have these days. Reassign some staff from elsewhere within the BPO and do what they are being paid to do!!!

Did you miss the part which stated, and I quote “the heads of Goverbment apartments were asked to cut expenditures by 5% because of budgetary restraints. However, the Post Master General cut expenditures by 30% wich has caused other problens in the department.
And now my longtime girlfriend can come down and work and many others while our locals are loosing jobs continuously, Im surprised de whole Island is not on strike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so these tax payers have to go collet their own mail. Ok, no problem.
So these postal workers who are not doing their jobs are not getting paid. Ok, I certainly hope not!
So will these tax payers have to also pick up their tax refund checks themselves? That is Ok too – they certainly deserve a refund of their hard earned money since they are not getting a service that their taxes pay for!

Clearly there is no need for these postal jobs. CUT THE CIVIL SERVICE and start right here!! Seems like a no-brainer.

The Post Office’s revenue has been cut more than 30%. There should be a corresponding decline in expense. The union is well aware of this math. Give the entire postal system to the union and watch your rates skyrocket. Unions do not function at a deficit.

I love how its always the innocent people who actually pay for the service in the form of payroll tax and other levies who suffer. All this is doing is proving that the people can function without mail delivery period. It highlights areas where services can be drastically reduced or cut out to eliminate unnecessary financial waste, in the form of wages, upkeep on vehicles and other areas.
