I would like to see direct flights from Bangor Maine. There are people living there who might want to come. We could operate a small 4 seater prop plane. That way it should nearly always be full. Forget NYC, who needs thosE 8 .4 million people anyway. I also agree the Orlando proposal. So many people travel from Bermuda to Orlando through out the year. That is a cash cow route. Everyone in Orlando keeps saying I wish I could fly to Bermuda, how the airlines have overlooked this vital air route I don’t know. Not to mention it would stop us Bermudians haveing to catch one of those connecting flights. Don’t the airlines know our time is too valuable to have to wait for a connection like most other people in the world do.

What is wrong with some of the people in this group!??? Did it ever occur to you that maybe just maybe…this flight is designed for people who are connecting to come to Bermuda!? You sound like a moron…Dallas??? How many people from Dallas come to Bermuda???? Historically our tourist come from the East Coast..finally it is NEW YORK CITY…You know..The MECCA!! So yes that is why there is another flight from JFk…its one of the busiest airports in the world.

I agree, for example flights to the Azores on an airline like SATA INT. would defiantly be beneficial to Bermuda because of our Azorean population. If not a direct flight to the Azores, then flights to Lisbon or Madrid would be just as beneficial

flying out of overcrowded JFK, is not the be all, still areas like Hartford, Westchester County, Rhode Island are neglected. All these Cities have air services in easy reach of Bermuda, right in the back yards of where our Tourist dollars are.
smaller airplanes on more frequent schedules especially for weekends fills the airport, and Bermudian Jobs.

Well since this is just a stream of speculation let me offer mine from a business perspective.
New York is the biggest tourism market and perhaps even the biggest business traveler market for Bermuda. Airlines want to compete for those travellers. American Airlines, JetBlue, United and Delta are all in that competition.
So maybe American introduced a second flight to try to defeat their competitors on the supply side — more seats, more scheduling flexibility and better prices. American is trying to cannibalise their competitors by getting volume — attracting more travellers paying competitive prices versus few travellers paying high prices.
This scenario is the best possible outcome for all of us who live here, especially because it doesn’t require an MGR. It’s just the free market doing what it does.

Any mental case (excluding you apparently) can figure that out…

1. Premiers don’t fly to visit Airline Executives to put them in headlocks and demand they fly to Bermuda.

2.Airlines do not just send planes to routes that are not profitable and with below average load factors.

3. THE MINISTER SAID SO!!!!

The minister did also say that we have paid out less to these airlines, my guess is that their Rev.Per Avail Seat had inched up enough to meet the target.

No, I am not a frequent flier but I am consistent in my destination, BWI, & travel days, always early weekday. AA does not get me there as early as Pan Am used to, before 12PM, & direct flts to BWI are seasonal & get there too late to make a land shuttle so AA it is, via MIA or JFK.

Anyway, those weekday early flts always seem to have a very good load & the late night returns equally loaded.

Years ago Eastern had a BDA,BWI,PHL which got into PHL around 3:30. Nice one.

Have you noticed which airline serving the island is more visible locally than all the others put together during the winter months? It’s Delta! While others serve the island three or four times a week, from my observances outside the airport perimeter fence, Delta sends three flights our way daily! And you think they need a flogging?

As a taxpayer I have a problem with Paying the BTA Big Wigs these over the top salaries to ‘fill airline seats’ and when they fail, paying the Airline for those unfilled seats…somethings gotta give here..As the OBA love to say.. ‘This is unsustainable!’

You definitely don’t work for American Airlines. The flight was only full a few days before Christmas. With Bermys going on vacation and shopping. Also let’s not forget xpats returning home for the holidays to USA. The rest of the year the flight has plenty of seats. The real question is what did the oba pay or promise for this extra flight with less tourist traveling to Bermuda. I thought we had no money!

For those of you that complain about stuff that you know “NOTHING ABOUT”
If you happen to have a spare $200Million Dollars,go buy one of those planes and then you can run it where ever you want to.Thats if you can get a licence.
Thank you OBA for getting additional seats to Bermuda and hopefully it works out for our benefit.
To and from London is a cabatage Route,and to Europe there is not enough “TRAFFIC”.(ie)not enough passengers.
May I suggest that you go and charter an aircrafe and see if “YOU” can fill it.Other wise SHUT YOUR CAKE HOLE.

The timing of this flight is great for overnight connections to Europe. I think it will give BA some competition as many people are going onwards from London and the connections out of Gatwick get worse every year!

Thank you OBA for? Subsidizing another flight from an already saturated city? I’d rather see a twice weekly out of Chicago or Dallas. And I love the spin!! What American Airlines saw was an opportunity to throw a plane (after the merger they have an excess of Aircraft) at a route where you are guaranteed not to lose money because the Gov’t will pay the difference…That’s the opportunity they saw.

Thank the OBA when you see Virgin Atlantic land on our shores from London, or even a twice weekly from Madrid (Iberia) Rome (Alitalia) Lufthansa from Munich etc. I’m not impressed by a subsidised flight from New York City.

Strange. I already thought we had enough daily flights to New York (United, Delta, Jet Blue, and on American), so I don’t see the need for another American. I imagine someone will pull out of service as a result.
