I am a “real born Bermudian” and I was there and support “pathways”.
However, I prefer just to refer to myself as a Bermudian.
Every single Bermudian’s family originally came from somewhere.
How shallow to think that somehow we are superior because we were born here.
By the massive showing of support tonight, the people have clearly spoken.
The polls concur 70% in support.
The petitions concur also almost 4000 in support compared to 1200 or so for the opposing petition.
The people have clearly spoken.

Just because you’ve never been to cupmatch, doesn’t mean you aren’t Bermudian. I am not the slightest bit interested in cricket, and enjoy spending the holiday hanging out at the beach or at someone’s pool, where the fridge is fully stocked. I’m a Bermudian born and bred, and love the cupmatch holiday, just choose to celebrate in my own way.

Everyone has the right to express their opinion. What is most striking and most upsetting is the demographics of the two groups who supposedly disagree.It cannot be ignored. At the same time there is much in common with the two groups.Commonalities that we could have worked together with. But rather we have what looks like White against Black. Friday may have looked like Black against white. All unnecessary because both groups agree with immigration reform. Both groups have always welcomed foreigners. Both groups agree that we are willing to work towards a thriving economy. The differences, however are glaring: this group for some reason is worth listening to. This group is worth mingling with. This group are fully employed. This group evidently have nothing to worry about…not theirs or their children’s future.This group is represented and protected. To this group, the Friday group are invisible.

Mr. Dunkley, Mr. Fahy and Company, this was never about race but you have certainly caused a bigger racial chasm in Bermuda.I guess it is shocking to see it so blatently.
And none of this was necessary, the issue could have been resolved so easily with a collaborative, comprehensive approach to immigration reform. It’s a Shame.
