hey frank–did you think up that all by yourself ..prison labour? really the new slave labour.. or haven’t you heard ..why was westgate built? in anticipation of USING the vulnerable and weak to succumb to and lead them into a situation where they are giving free labour ..hmmm.. check out the American prison systems and how they are using prisoners for cheap labour and tell me whether this is what we should be doing.. It would have cost less if we would be actually fair and equitable in providing people with what they are OWED! there is still an outstanding debt that needs to be paid and even though the people that are owed may not realize it , the debt still remains..

Major Barrett Dill is the one who said that, the GM of the Bermuda Housing Corporation. He was the the same guy in the same position saying the same things back in 2014.

Back when they were trying to sell them to Bermudian families this point was outstanding:

“Existing Cliff Face remediated with reinforced concrete and eradicated of casuarinas”

At the time (2014) there was a tiny retaining wall.

He has the job of marketing this nightmare. I wish him luck. Nobody in their right mind would buy it outright. They *may* get someone to lease it, but nobody wants to own it.

Perhaps we gift it to the BIU and they can pack it with unionized staff and run the best little hotel in Bda.

Why don’t we take the remaining prisoners from the states and keep them there? Maybe get our debt paid off….

lets be real no developer is going to build any hotel on that site.so we are stuck with it so we could just let it rot away or we can do something with it.
we use prison labor to start getting the units livable now

Its clear that government gave up on delivering a quality product. Look at the colour. Bermudians may appreciate low cost but they surely dont want a low cost banner hanging from their balconies. Paint the place break up all that dreary grey. Just imagine the ACE building on Front St. if it were all grey. It’s depressing to look at.

So your suggestion is that government should open up a block and pay to maintain it habitable for a single inhabitant… and then further to that expense, refit it and get into the business to accommodate tourist rentals and services… this is your idea to save money… it’s no wonder you believe the PLP represent the best option for the viability for the future of this country.

Zealots like ‘watching’ conveniently forget that the BHC board resigned in protest of being overridden by the Minister regarding the construction of these units. That’s right the BHH board at the time vetoed this project unanimously.

He/she also forgets that at the time housing prices were falling and the prices that these tiny, no elevator, no yard condos were being listed at could have got you a single detached home with property.

Grand Atlantic is a case study as to how political interference (over technical experts) produces failed results.

Now you want to blame the OBA> Take a page from M’s book and own up to the disaster that the Grand Atlantic was. It was doomed from the start. Nobody in their right mind would build a 4 star hotel and surround it wit low cost housing. It was just a really really stupid idea and it cost us millions.
