Why don’t the two of you make an appointment with the police commissioner and or his deputies and ask them what needs to be done to try to halt the seemingly rising crime and criminal rate in Bermuda. When you have done this, you can then go into the house of assembly with statistics and figures to make a case. Use your initiative instead of shouting “something needs to be done!”. Pathetic !!

I’m urging churches to get back to what they are supposed to be known for.. love ans self sacrifice. Open your doors seven days a week to help your community than to condemn during your weekly church service. Be the village, feed and shelter the poor. Open ASP programs that teach reading, life’skills and help with homework, help absentee father’s complete their GED and teach them how to be father’s. Help single women to buggy and value who they are. Have drug programs. Start health and fitness program.. do what you where called to do.

Police stations don’t prevent crime…..having enough officers with enough vehicles on patrol deals with crime! Rather than funding an old station, money be better used for more officers and more vehicles. Simple. When was the last time a police station responded to a robbery…..

The softly softly approach by the PLP for 14 years has created this mess. It is not about poverty and poor young disaffected men….it is a bunch of gangster criminals who are fighting over small patches of *turf* and the drug trade….and in a recent case payback for being unable to rob someone who bust their ass.

These kids saw their leaders getting away with all sorts of shenanigans growing up…labeling some “immoral but not illegal”. Unintended consequences are seen in these crimes.

Simple fact is there are no policemen available to man an additional station in St George. What existing Police function are we willing to sacrifice in order to be able to re-deploy officers to this task?

Some thoughts………………….

1) 3 strikes rule = death penalty
2) Increased street presence of police.
3) Use proceeds of crime towards rewarding people who provide information that leads to a conviction. That money can be voluntarily given to a charity at the choice of the person.
4) Shopping wardens /store detectives ….security that wanders plain clothed and in uniform around the streets, has walkie talki comms and can relay information about suspicious behavior, known criminals.
5)gps dotted goods.
6) gps dotted money
7) 24 hour voice recording in store. refreshed following
8) 24 hour camera surveillance
9) motion activated apps used by store owners and police.
10) panic buttons in all stores linked to either loud sounding alarms and to police station.
11) Tracker dots…store keepers can attach to money, throw at criminals, attach to criminals buy touch.

Active, regular police door to door in communities. Police should know who is in their area.

I believe the old police station should be refurbished and reopened. Ground level gives more visibility to the officers.
Perhaps employed those out of work people on a short term reasonable contract to put it back in shape?
