Most times the robbery will not be reported until AFTER it has already happened. These guys are in and out in a minute.

Only way police get there in time is either luck or with the help from a member of the public. Or a quick-thinking employee hits the panic alarm, which is exactly why they are installed.

If costs are a concern, they can introduce a tax, in a similar way as a tax was used to build or defray some of the expenses of building the hospital many years ago. With no police on foot, some folk will do as they please whenever they please…folks are becoming more and more brazen. Some will have a hard time getting work if they have a criminal record, if they have a poor work ethic or dress code they again will find themselves out of work.. There are not many jobs about during this season, there really aren,t. St. George,s is not a hive of activity as it use to be when it had two cruise ships in port weekly.

We have always felt safe, but when visiting in June things did not seem the same. I was concerned that David Rose had been broken in to and that another business had padlock on their door and now this robbery at the time my daughters and myself were on that street a few weeks ago. Something has got to be done to protect these businesses. The return of the police station would be a great investment in the town and protection for business owners and residents. Can we not renovate (again) and re-use the old police station? If not, can we identify another location. As was discussed at the recent town meeting, we have to “feel” safe and, at the moment, this is not happening for residents or shop-keepers. Add visitors to that now as this break in took place during the prime time visitors are wandering into the town from the ferry.
