As you say, “Everything mechanical breaks down every so often.” but this is happening like once or twice a month, or even once or twice a week at times! I don’t blame the BELCO linesman who’s working in the hot sun to get my power on, or the mechanic who’s busting his knuckles in the dirt and grease to keep an engine maintained, or the operator who works long hours to keep the plant running. Its upper management who gets the blame for not providing the best tools and equipment for their workers. So yes, we have a nice safe home here in Bermuda, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t complain and lay blame when things go wrong. People have every reason to be upset. We pay a high price for the service so it bothers us that we don’t get high reliability out of it.

And thanks go out to the guys & gals who worked to get the power back on quickly.

Wow. Because we don’t have terrorist incidents everything’s hunky-dory and you should leave if you have any complaints.

The fact is that electricity isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity. There is a economic cost when the power is out. In fact, in this heat, there may be a health cost. We pay a fortune to Belco to provide us with power. We have every right to complain when they don’t and to demand answers concerning how these problems are going to be addressed. Particularly at a time when that company is paying out record dividends to their shareholders.

They don’t cut us any breaks on bills, why should we not speak up? Not to mention the damage it does to very expensive electronics. Get a life? What does that have to do with anything you buffoon? When you have a 90 yr old parent it is essential to have a fan running…last evening same thing happened…our bills are ridiculous but we get a very poor supply considering the cost. Always without power after a hurricane…longest period being 7 weeks.
It was impossible to get through to Belco as all numbers were not available

To all the naysayers posting here. Get a life. Sh*t happens. So you lose your AC for a couple of hours, it’s a hot day and your beer is getting warm in the fridge. Everything mechanical breaks down every so often. It’s a fact of life. Look on the bright side. Apart from the gang related shootings that go on here, we are in a pretty safe environment. There have been to my knowledge no terrorist related incidents, ( since the late 60s early 70s ) that I can recall, and the local Police do not gun down people. Yes, we have a disfunctional political system and too much racially driven strife, but all in all we have a comfortable and safe environment. If you don’t like it, there are at least ten flights a day for you to solve your problem. Bon voyage.

This is really unacceptable. This happened yesterday as well and with a reported 5,000 less people in Bermuda there is no reason for this to be a daily occurrence and it always seems to happen to those who reside in the east. How is Belco going to handle this next year with the America’s Cup in full swing? Ridiculous!
