Just quickly, the BTA could be self sustaining quite easily if they were given the taxes that were levied on the tourist when they come to Bermuda. Air and Cruise tax alone is about $55 million a year. Know the facts.

Can the BTA also ensure that the beaches are cleaned of the smashed glass that will inevitably appear after these events? We are still picking large chunks of glass from Horseshoe after the last event 4/5 weeks ago.

So when there’s a lack of local entertainment in tourism you scream bloody murder and then when someone does something about it you complain about the result. I just can’t with you.

Clearly there’s a recovery going on and that means more visitors, more money-earning opportunities for locals and more tax revenue for government to pay for roads, schools and all the other things that are falling apart.

Hopefully, brilliant local entertainers like the Simons Brothers will drown out your silly bickering.

I hope the live music continues into the Fall where it can be geared more towards locals seeing as many of us avoid touristy areas during the busy season. I would love to plan a big family outing on a Friday night where we could listen to some live music – hopefully not just touristy music though.

Let us be clear. The BTA “grant” is really a Bermuda Government handout. Until such times as they are self supporting and not relying on taxpayer (our) money, they will be simply spending our taxes.
When will the BTA become financially independent and run like a business as promised by former Minister Crockwell?
