We don’t have to be able to protect immediately to establish a marine conservation area – publicize this now, and subsequently form a joint effort on enforcing.

US Coast Guard and Navy, Royal Navy, Sea Shepherd, drone and satellite monitoring) – this is not unrealistic if we lay the foundation.

Vessels are fishing our waters and there is not a damn thing we can do about.
We have no means period of enforcement and will not, ever.

It’s all good on paper and you know what we do with paper.

So in a nut shell there is no way to accurately track illegal fishing vessels in or close to our EEZ because the vessel can either choose to turn off their Automatic Identification System [AIS] or choose not to identify what type of vessel they are because this is not a requirement of carrying an AIS? So what’s the point? These vessels and their crew know the migratory routes of the most valuable fish (pelagic) and they can sit outside the 200 mile EEZ and fish legally (which will immediately affect local fish stocks) and there is nothing we can do about it!

Protect our EEZ under a new conservation initiative called the ‘Bermuda Marine Reserve’.

Send a message to the world that we cherish our surrounding waters and we can then work on the protection of the same space.

Plunder and pillage is for previous generations – the world’s environment has taken just about all it can handle. Its time for courageous action by our elected officials to present our conservationist stance to the rest of the world – one that we can successfully market to progressive-minded travelers the world over.
