And it’s for the same reasons that many Bermudians will never go ! Or spend a cent , or even discuss in a positive light this event !

For some silly reason since 1998 , EVERY EVENT OR PRODUCTION , became a political football …. It never used to be !

The provobial horse has bolted from the corral ,, probably for the worse , let loose initially by the supporters of the now defunct UBP POLITICAL ARM .

Nobody sabotaged the music festivals. They went ahead as planned. The problem was that they lost money and generated very little adfitional tourism, and were of no real lasting benefit to Bermuda when it comes to adding to tourism. They were nothing more than two-day parties thrown at government expense. That’s why they attract ridicule.

I cannot believe the constant negativity and politicking that any discussion about the AC seems to engender on these forums.

Why can’t we Bermudians just be pleased and proud that we are pulling off an amazing event??? One that is being watched and enjoyed all over the world!!

But no, we have to sabotage ourselves by being so small minded and just plain mean to each other. Why can’t we just stop it for just a while and enjoy this event?

I haven’t been able to attend yet, but hope to go one day, those $20 tickets are great, and I want to go and actually absorb the atmosphere up in Dockyard which I’ve been told is fabulous.

I know this is all political stuff, but it is not showing us in a particularly good light – we certainly don’t sound welcoming to the visitors or the sailors. And for heavens sake, whichever party you vote for, we all need them here!

So maybe we could think a little before we constantly post political rhetoric daily on every AC article? It is going very well after all, so why can’t we leave the politics to other forums please?

You do realize that the people executing the event have all worked either for the Bermuda gov( that means civil servants) or in the private sector! Even those in BTA are former civil servants so what makes you think that a PLP gov couldn’t have pulled this off….aside from your own racism that is!!! Your statement does a dishonor to the hardworking people of this country that get things done when you all are out here fighting about which party did what! The difference between the Music Fest and AC35 is not even close! Every time the AC race is on TV, millions of people see the footage, the advertising and hear the commentators. The Music Festivals were sold out but they were selling a few hundred tickets and the reality is that very few people actually travelled here as tourist for the Event. If that wasn’t true the PLP would have done more.

How many people in NY, Boston, NJ, Atlanta, London, Toronto, Miami do you honestly think travelled here JUST to see Beyoncé when they could have seen here on Tour in their home town for far less! Ten, fifty maybe?

If you haven’t seen the tourists, I don’t know what to tell you except get your eyes tested. call the hotels and try and book a room! Sad thing is that the are still Bermudians like you on this islands that just don’t see the big picture. Or you are just really ignorant?
Why didn’t you complain about the cost of tickets to the Beyoncé concert that cost Bermuda $4 million? If I remember correctly tickets were $100+? Were the tickets for the Faith Based Tourism concerts free? Oh , that right they never happened. Jazz Fest was free? Nope!

But I get it, you want, want , want. And think of nobody but me, me , me, I., I , I and never the cost of anything, how you can help or the big picture.

Oh and by the way , we have more tourists, and cruise ships visiting then ever! There is a cruise ship coming from the UK with the sole purpose of bring visitors to the AC35 event.

Who is begging, almost everything is sold out! You cant get grandstand They are merely telling the public that these are the few dates that are available. And if you notice many have a little asterisks which are extra days, which may or may not be racedays .

My mistake. But my point is that spending millions on any event guarantees a good party and a good show. Remember when the America’s Cup was awarded to Bermuda, there was talk about hiring cruise ships as ‘floating hotels’ to handle the expected influx of visitors.
Where are these floating hotels? It’s safe to assume, the AC is not living up to the promised hype. Nonetheless, I have attended and had a great time.

The music festivals attracted only Bermudians therefore there was no positive economic impact – in fact it was negative. This is generating foreign currency ($US) you know the stuff that Bermuda and Bermudians need to live the way we do.

Why are tickets sales being push to Bermudians….to pay twice for this event.

There was talk of a floating hotel ship, to handle the massive amount of tourist..

Yet, we are here at the 11th hour.. begging Bermudians to pick up the cost..

Went today and it was fantastic….well organized Bermuda should be very proud and it could never ever have been done by the PLP….hopefully it will be brought back again with all the infrastructure in place, new airport, casinos…thanks to the OBA for pulling this off and punching above our weight……..tourists are thrilled…..

The event is a hit, as it should be. Bermuda paid $77m to host the event, plus the millions spent to build that 9 acre facility at Dockyard. The question is whether the money spent will reap rewards. No one knows this as no one can predict the future.
Remember, the PLP music festivals were also a hit. With sold out seating and plenty of glitz and glamour, these events were awesome. Bermuda paid millions to the participants and organizers, and the party was second to none.
If you spend millions, any party or event will be phenomenal, that doesn’t necessary equate to a economic or financial return.

This event is definitely a hit, and putting Bermuda on the map so to speak. BUT haven’t heard one word from the opposition. They talk about working together, is the event not up to there standards. Its our island so they are benefiting also..
