Was there and thoroughly enjoyed the racing and the vibe. Even none sailors were catching the excitement and nail biting close calls in the Oracle races.

Vendors were spot on and unarguably this event is a showcase, for what we achieve as a small community working together. when we step onto the world stage.

It is not conventional I’ll give you that! Not sure I am 100% into the pedaling but I understand that it is used to create hydraulic pressure which powers everything from sail trim to steering and foils. This is sailing that is blended with high tech and the result is them going 3x’s the wind speed…the technology being developed for the sake of winning a race could potentially spin off into real world applications which would be cool. Only way to watch and understand is on TV or in the grandstand (which has TV). Steering and tactical skills still apply but ropes and pulleys seem to have gone by the wayside.

It does look confusing. Not as obvious as nascar, track and field or F1 where the track is obvious and the same for all. For the most part they have a choice of markers they must go around. But tgey are also seeking the best wind. Wind only blows from one direction obviously so they have to zig zag back against the wind. Ive never sailed but I hope this helps.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE ROUTE THE A.C. BOATS TAKE. THEY GO THE SAME WAY TO THE START LINE THEN CRISS CROSS EACH OTHER, CONFUSING??? THE SAILORS IF THAT’S WHAT CALLED?? ARE PEDALING WITH THEIR ARMS & THE KIWIS WITH THEIR FEET. WHY?
