This Election proves that a bermuda silent majority exists, those Bermudians who disliked the OBA Policies but kept quiet amongst peers and the newly registered voters are the voters that made the difference. This in no way discredits the hard work canvassing put in by all the candidates.

The OBA does not understand the people of Bermuda. The voters want to be sold on ideas, they want to be persuaded that the ideas being promoted by Government are actually a good thing.

What the OBA demonstrated in the last couple of years was simply announcing what they thought was best for Bermuda and then proceeding with it. Pathways to Status is a good example.

Even in his departure speech, former Premier Dunkley demonstrated that he did not understand why the OBA fell to a crushing defeat.

If you want to govern us and be reelected, treat us like adults. Tell us why we should agree with you. Do not treat us like children to be told how to behave.

And there was so much talk about Pathways to Status giving votes to the OBA. It appears that those people who did receive Status through the loop hole created by the PLP didn’t necessarily vote OBA as was continually suggested.
Perhaps now the PLP will show some compassion to those persons who have contributed to the island for so long without the security of being able to call their island home.
