Not to be a negative nellie, but the hospital was basically forced to do this. It would appear that KEMH isn’t staffed enough to attend to their patient’s needs fully. Nurses don’t have the time, or the patience, to go around to every patient’s bed and give them a sip of water or help them to the bathroom. The hospital is trying to give the impression that they’re doing it for the patient (and they partially are), but what it’s really about is lightening the load for the nursing staff.

That is a very positive and welcome change in policy . I was able to stay 24/7 when my wife suffered a sudden major illness while we were away . It was invaluable to be in her room for doctors’ rounds , which I would have missed entirely if I had been restricted to normal visiting hours .

This is an overdue but very welcome decision which will give comfort to a lot of patients and their families and overall will ease the strain on nursing staff.

KEMH has finally arrived in the 21st Century! Now if they could do something about training all the staff about how to treat all people with respect & care!!
