The reality is, that in proportion compared to America, we have far less road traffic deaths. Even the figure of 115 visits to the hospital is not that unrealistic. Does anyone ever stop to realize how many vehicles are on our roads at one time? Probably 20,000. Do the math on that and our figures for accidents and deaths are much more realistic. And due to the very narrow and tight and slow roads, this creates a frustrating and sometimes dangerous driving condition. Many roads are not trimmed for foliage spreading into the road, many entrances are blind and highly dangerous, many road painted lines are faded, many places which need sight mirrors are absent of such, and the list goes on. These things, and not speed are the cause of so many accidents. The alcohol is also a factor, but not in all these 115 cases! Bad driving and pulling out arrogantly in front of traffic causes most accidents. And it is usually the tight congestion on our roads and overly slow speed limits that cause a slow, gagged congestion with so many vehicles. Roads need to be widened and limits altered to higher and lower in areas like every other civilized nation on earth. I can promise you that such physical and speed changes would cause better flow and safer driving. Bad drivers are just in need of help, and cracking down on drunk divers is another, but done in a good way not some hair-brained method.

I counted seven people oncoming on my side of the road…and three passing dangerously.
