As a parent myself, one of the most painful realizations that parents have is that they will not be alive to witness all of their child’s lives. They will not know how “it all turned out.” As a parent, you will witness your child’s birth, nurse their skinned knees, cheer them on at their college graduations, walk them down the aisle at their wedding and spoil your grandchildren until that final day when we, as parents, take our last breath and let them go on to live their lives without us. A parent will reflect on the pain of that final day — not in their own death, but in knowing Ithey will never know how their child’s story ends.

So, I would ask all of us to search our souls now. Do we have a spiritual contract to leave the world a better place than we found it? Have we left the world a better place when our sons are dying on the streets? Have we left the world a better place when our sons are dying because of mistaken identity or because of where they reside?

Love of Bermuda our island home and love of each other can look like many things to many people. But genuine love is never toxic. Parents will not be alive to see the end of their children’s story, but I will do everything in my power that when they see the end of mine — they will know I did what I could to leave the world a better place for them.

So let’s take back the streets and be our brothers keepers!!!

So very sorry I missed this vigil. It looks like it was a really powerful call to our community on behalf of victims of violence. I think this would really have reached hearts and minds.

Well done, to all who stood and let their voices be heard, never give up the fight and never get discouraged in well doing. Your message is positive and must continually be heard, even if it means standing alone sometimes.

May God continually strengthen the families who have lost their love ones and the friends, associates, and those who have been greatly effected by their loss.

This is not a political problem, but a serious social problem, and it takes all of us both near and far to do what it takes until the change we need, is the change we see.
