Some don’t join the PLP for the same reason US minorities do not support the Republicans en masse. And that is simply because the latter has no qualms about disparaging and hating the former.

I am pretty sure if she joined the PLP she wouldn’t have a voice among the chauvinistic and misogynistic bunch that run that party. I think she is in the exact right place to have her voice heard. Not to mention every PLP member is toeing someone elses’ line.

Greatly appreciated her clear comments about not being in politics for the money “she doesn’t need it”, that “she was elected by her constituents”, not the party and “she would not be crossing the floor” when there are differences”. That speaks volumes about having the right motives to do a political job. Too often it is blatantly clear persons are into politics because they have made no professional success of their lives, need the money and the benefits. Too often persons join politics for the status, follow blindly and really stand for nothing. Today, no matter what party you align yourself with, it has to be about principles and ethics or you fall for anything that will keep you in the payroll. We know who those politicians are…it’s just unfortunate far too many voted for them based on party allegiance and not for what is in the best interest of Bermuda.

Whats funny is you have people that say, I join UBP/oba to make a difference inside out. Then come to find out that there is a systematic structure that has been ingrained for generations and anytime they try to go against the grain, in this case speak against Historical injustice that still resonates today, they are silenced or reprimanded.
If they were convicted to the cause, why not take those positive sentiments and use it in an entity that supports your ideology or moral obligation for the people that have been oppressed by Historical Lesgislation and Policies.
How I see it is, its like trying to convince your party to be compassionate and sensitive to the concerns of those who are decendants of the STRUGGLE is like throwing pearls to swine.

Thank you for your service, compassion and hard work. Ignore the ‘haters’. I don’t see these folks trying to do anything for Bermuda except drag everyone down with their constant criticism and negativity. It isn’t easy to put yourself out there as someone will always find fault with something whether you are PLP or OBA. I appreciate your hard work and especially your honest and frank approach.
