Nope. Prison Officers do not pay any contribution toward GEHI. Government absorbs the whole premium.

Now that everyone knows that Prison Officers do not pay for health insurance we can expect other civil servants to want free health insurance

I’m led to believe they do contribute to the plan but do not have to co-pay.These people have also worked without a contract for ten or so years.I would also bet that with the type of job they have a better wage would be preferred instead of overtime pay.I also gather the reason for overtime really comes down to the shortage of staff which has been one of their complaints.One more point with a dependent they do have to co-pay.

I don’t think there is such a thing as a good working environment in a prison. And it never will be , it’s a prison. I don’t know if the current benefits package is similar to what other countries pay.

The officers refused a request to pay into the Government Employee Health Insurance plan. So the rest of Bermuda has to continue to fund this. They have real issues. Most people are paying an average of 600 a month for gehi and they got issues with helping out? Plus they get to retire after 22 years and get a pension!! Their basic check is $4500 but these officers are pulling in 10k tp 12k plus in overtime a month. I say give cut all overtime out. Allow the police to do perform some of their jobs. Lets see how beggars can’t be choosers. The Government needs to reveal how much the tax payers saved from them doing work to rule.
