What are the critical items one should check and look for on any vehicle before driving off ?

The answers to those questions as with older vehicles is the vehicle safe to drive in the first place?

When purchasing a new vehicle, the learning process can take time, as not all vehicle are alike.

Most vehicles have standard adjustment features relating to correct seating position .

Powered driver seats take time getting used to :-

Forward
Backward
Seat height
Seat back angle

When driving a vehicle which has been driven by others the seat position may not be suitable for you, even if you go out for a test drive in a new vehicle.

All rear view mirrors and options will need to be re set .

Does the vehicle have a minimal half tank of fuel ?
Check to see if the seat belt slips ?
Does the horn and light signals work?
Is the Vehicle insured?
Who pays for catastrophic claims ?
Drivers liability .

Most likely the number one safety check is being able to forcibly operate the brakes in an emergency and while you are at it check the limits of the brake pedal travel .

DRIVING AN OLDER VEHICLE be extra careful by making sure that vehicle is safe to drive.

It would also be good to put to the general public statistics on the number of road vehicle accidents occuring during the course of a week.
