When scientists have surveyed the climatic history of our world over the past centuries a number of key eras have stood out.

These ranged from the “Roman Warm Period”, which ran from AD 250 to AD 400, and saw unusually warm weather across Europe, to the famed Little Ice Age, which saw temperatures drop for centuries from the 1300s.

The events were seen by some as evidence that the world has warmed and cooled many times over the centuries and that the warming seen in the world since the industrial revolution was part of that pattern and therefore nothing to be alarmed about.

This is all fine and good but when will it start to reduce the cost of our BELCO bill? I heard the Captain talking to the RA people this morning but they skirted the question each time he asked. Is this going to provide a cost saving to the Bermudian people? Will we see the fuel surcharge disappear or be reduced?

Additing to that….over the next 6 years within which wind will be installed in Bermuda, prices will continue to fall and technology will continue to improve.

They may generate cheaper than oil when the wind is blowing but what happens when it’s not? Back to old reliable oil?

But you might want to have a read up on the subsidies. Subsidies are alive and well in the US, UK and Europe for wind and all renewables.

Actually they generate cheaper electricity than using oil so don’t require any subsidies at all. Both the Bermuda Better Energy Plan and now the RAB’s IRP have independently confirmed this through detailed cost modelling for Bermuda

The problem with wind farms is that they do not cover their expenses and need to be heavily subsidized. Where is that money going to come from?
