To test the loyalty of Bermuda to the Crown. For today we have a mutinous government which has done nothing but try to uproot any trace of the Crown from our island and also push for independence, acting as if the Crown and the British did not discover and settle our uninhabited island and build it up into what it became. Just think, Bermuda. If we were independent back then during the Gunpowder plot times. Our island would have been discarded or run over by whoever came across it.
