It wasn’t the PEOPLE’s protest. It was a rent a crowd called up by the PLP and supported by a made up protest group, the union and the church to stop the ruling party from accomplishing something that the opposition party couldn’t accomplish in 15+ years in power.

There was no chance that Fahy would ever be able to run because he was demonized as the bad not “Bermudian” Bermudian.

Every time Caines goes up to make a new explanation for the delays in “comprehensive immigration reform” I cringe because I know that there’s a core group in the background pulling the strings despite the results of this survey and the inevitable results of the consultation group.

I’m a foreigner and an employer. I currently employ 10 people in Bermuda. The majority are Bermudian. I take the risk of success or failure.

I am about to launch a new company where I expect a similar level of employment. This company does not need to be located in Bermuda. I can easily outsource the work elsewhere at a fraction of the cost. Incorporating in Bermuda essentially saves me the cost of attending an annual board meeting in another jurisdiction. That being said, proximity is generally always preferred.

I am based in Bermuda for a number of reasons; some of which are: 1) geographical convenience 2) a strong domestic regulator (the BMA) and the stable jurisdictional reputation it helps to support 3) access to an educated and experienced workforce.

To say…”The only way an immigrant can create a job for me the Bermudian is if he lost his job”…shows a superficial understanding of the broader economy and how it actually works. Maybe dig a little deeper. If you want my job or the job of those like me (domestic or foreign) then step up and give it a shot. I wish you nothing but success; as I am sure would those who you might employ.

What is meant by that is that 1 person new to the island can create more jobs. They will need to buy groceries, they will go out to eat, they will buy gas, pay rent. Its a knock on affect not a 1:1 relationship.

The only way an immigrant can create a job for me the Bermudian is if he lost his job. Who designed the surve? How many people took the survey? Cause I’m a resident I didn’t even know about it. Did the the issuer of the survey or any members of the team have information to assist the “lean” of the out come of the final report?
