Discipline comes from within and begins in the home. It is certainly not an umpire’s responsibility to tell grown men how to behave or what acceptable behaviour looks like. It starts in the home. If you are rude and disrespectful in Bermuda you will be rude and disrespectful every where. The chickens have come home to roost.

Some good points:
BCB/match officials should be quicker when it comes to sanctions. Also, discipline has often been lacking from the local game. Who’d be an umpire? Yes, cricket can be a passionate sport, but respect the officials, players.

This has to start at the local level, from youth up to seniors. Stress to players AND supporters to respect the officials and opponents.

I turned on my computer and there is was front and center of MSN news and then on every international news media. The problem with discipline in Bermuda sports in general is that we all just accept bad behavior. The umpires and referees, coaches, parents, fans ….. We might complain about it, but we think it’s someone else’s issue to deal with, well it is time for us to deal with it as a Community. Look at the way one player acted at Cup Match and then again at the T20 qualifiers in Bermuda, but we take him anyway. He is a tremendous athlete, but he has been allowed to act like this his entire life.

If I hear one more story about what’s going on in Dubai I am going to scream. I would like to think it is an exaggeration, but I read what the captain said the other day and he referred to lack of discipline on and off the field, so you have to wonder.

I did like that the young man accepted his punishment but more so that the punishment was handed down almost immediately, BCC take a lesson from this and make sure that match reports are submitted the following day and sanctions are issued before the next game day.

This spoiled child should be sent home on the next plane at his own expense. What an embarrassment to Bermuda.
