And wrt your last sentence the question arises .. What happens to the coverage that people get who retired with health insurance benefits ?
Will they lose their current comprehensive plan and inherit this $520 (?) a month fiasco ?

Big crowd for a normally apathetic Bermuda. Something of a balance too in ages, gender & race too.

Those who did not bother, thinking that they will somehow be magically taken care of had better think again. All is well while you are still working & the employer picks up half the insurance bill but when you hit retirement you are on your own.

What this government wants to be seen to be doing , in the eyes of their diehard support base , is busting the b***s of the insurance companies. But it’s not the insurance companies who are responsible for the high health care costs , it’s the service providers and pharma suppliers .
Besides , even if their magnificent plan only cost $50 a month and offered full benefits there’d still be a load of people , as there is now , who won’t buy it and will remain uncovered .

I was there – big crowd by Bermuda standards. Gov really needs to listen rather than bully their own way on this. Very few people have any confidence in Gov’s ability to do this. They want to push the public into accepting a plan without knowing the costs and impact on benefits. And yet they have made little attempt to improve our existing system. Wholesale bombings of existing systems never work out – you basically screw a generation until the kinks are worked out.

very good cross section of the community – Government must as least pause this policy until it has actual details so we can compare. we also need to know who is going to run it.
