Kathy, I would like to agree with you, but not very realistic.
1st and foremost, there are NOT enough test kits to test every person currently residing in Bermuda.
There are people who could possibly have it, get tested, tests come back negative and then carry on with it.
There isn't enough space in Bermuda for every one to self isolate.
So the rumor mill is use a certainHotel as the isolation building.
So do we take the limited number of ventilators at KEMH and from any private medical institutions to a hotel?
What about those older folk whom live in a Seniors Home?
Its easy to say look what other countries are doing, they have resources that we don't have here.

If companies, banks, etc., get on board and freeze all bills during this, then yeah your suggestions could work.

But look how many people have already been laid off in Bermuda. No one can pay bills if they aren't receiving income.

I agree this virus needs to be contained with some drastic measures. But drastic measures should include a freeze on all bills as well. People will start to lose homes because of unpaid mortgage bills and the list goes on. EVERYONE needs to do their part so that EVERYONE can make it through this without losing too much.

Social distancing only slows the progress of the virus. It cannot quash it.

So, what exactly is it that we are we waiting for? Are we hoping for a miracle vaccine to arrive? This virus has no boundaries and is a hidden virus in society. Where there is one case you can assume that 3% of your population is already positive for the virus. You do the math.

The obvious next move for the Government is to collaborate with the local health insurance companies (Argus, BFM, Colonial). TEST TEST TEST. This is how China was able to do it. This is what Italy is working on.

They must put everyone on lock down for at least three weeks. Anyone going out should receive a $10,000 fine and three month future jail term. Government workers need to go door to door and test everyone in Bermuda within the next two - three weeks.

After the results come back those who test positive are isolated and cured. Once medically cured (no symptoms), they need to be virally cured which means an additional 30 days of isolation and two negative tests at the end of those 30 days.

So, if I tell you to lock down now and you can then all go back to work, all go back to the cinema, all go back to school, all go back to work, all go on the beaches after a short 6 week period and you can all enjoy your summers out on your boats, would it be worth it to all pull together in a collective effort to quash this virus now rather than wait?

If you don't think it can be done, look at what the Italian town of Vo Eugeneo was able to do within a matter of a few weeks. Bermuda is a small enough and wealthy enough community to be able to quash this virus. It just takes the effort of everyone collaborating together for a short period of time. It can be done.
