Just how effective are these roads stops? Are the police and regiment actually efficient? I went from Hamilton to town then to hospital and back home for essential reasons and not once did I get stopped or was a checkpoint on either of my side of the road going and coming back. To me that was a worrying issue as I felt anybody could just go anywhere if they wanted to.

Also this waiting for unemployment is a bit ridiculous I submitted my application with no errors on the 27th of March and have yet to receive payment. The numbers are rarely available so even trying to get a question asked is fruitless…

Job categories like yours most people do not see. If the building they rent to live in needs painting they don’t see or pay for the painters who get the job done. They don’t see or pay for the plumber who comes to fix the pump.

The are loads of self employed, single employee people out there who have very little interaction with anyone else forced out of work for no good reason.

Too bad they don’t have something in place for the really small business owners who were not making enough to pay taxes. Would be nice if something was in place for them so they don’t starve and have to result to alternative means of income… I.e. ( illegal activity)
Maintenance/ masons/ trade people in general who work for themselves but not big enough.
Well atleast our civil servents are getting paid healthily with no cuts.

Given the number of curfew breakers & people who feel that they are special & entitled to do whatever they want, no doubt the policy of priority access to essential workers has been abused creating extra long wait times for those in group 7, the last ones to board.

Why put up with the arguments from ‘special people’ who really do not deserve the special treatment? Those who do lose.

So who was it that complained and stopped emergency and essential workers having priority access to shops, or which inconsiderate ill informed rule maker made this decision.
Thank you very much to you. With all we do, i do, for your people to keep them alive.i have almost no time and to wait 1 week on a sunday to get priority access is unacceptable. I am working 12 hours a day and simply can not get to the supermarket. I am greatly offended. Thank you. I wont soon forget this.

If they held all rule breakers to account with fines like they are supposed to, it would stop. The Green team can easily do it. The blind sheep will not stray no matter how bad it gets for them.

What a joke. The Govt is not taking this seriously. People are not sheltering in place. In my area I see cars and bikes constantly coming and going (most of the time multiple people in the cars and on the bikes), people driving after 7:00pm and plenty of socializing. Even as I am typing this, a car has just driven up. I know the driver doesn’t live here but nobody is enforcing it and nobody cares, because it has not stopped. Get ready Bermuda, we are about to drown in our sea of Covid.

I think the idea of a daily televised briefing is a good idea: people look to the government for reassurance that they have protocol and procedures to handle this crisis. That being said, why is that the government cannot meet the broadcast time of 5:30pm? The odd late start is excusable but every production has been late, anything from 5 minutes to 25 minutes: this cavalier attitude towards punctuality is not encouraging faith in the government’s efficiency.

The elderly and other at risks are unfortunately going to likely be casualties.

We don’t like to say it but it’s the reality of the situation. The vaccine is still 12-18 months away, and we have likely 100-200 people in total who will be immune by the end of lockdown.

We have no long term plan on what we are going to do, and we cannot open the borders when we still have 63,000 people who don’t have any form of immunity.

America’s response was undoubtedly slower, but small towns in America have more people than our country with less resources so it makes sense. It’s far more difficult to coordinate.

Our government needs to begin to design a plan for the long term. So far all we’ve had is the same press conference everyday (except the days they take off entirely, acting as if one of them needing some rest means the others can’t give a quick statement). We haven’t heard anything about how they plan to address this situation moving forward.

Our reaction is incredibly short sighted, and it seems that people believe that the lockdown will solve the issues. It won’t, because we still cannot go back to anything resembling normal without at minimum, herd immunity (70% immunity).

This has yet to be addressed by our government and is something that they wish to sweep under the rug. Hopefully they can consult with someone who can tell them what their opinions should be.

Take it from an American in Florida, Bermuda’s government response is stellar! Us, not so much. Yes, government may have been slow at first but America wasn’t setting a very good example and we still don’t have a unified national response except to hand out checks and bailouts. I hope you especially appreciate the measures being taken for your seniors. It seems like our seniors, minorities, and poor are just being treated as casualties of war. My heart is broken every day. Covid is no joke and definitely not a hoax. Stay home, wash your hands, stay 6 feet away from people, wear a mask, and protect the vulnerable. We’ll get through this. PS nice job Bernews with your update feed!

Why was there a traffic warden out today patrolling Front St? I saw this first hand so did all the others lined up outside Supermart at 8:45 am this morning.
