I say, don’t phase out Middle school completely. Enhance the curriculum for middle school instead because I’ve noticed we are way behind among all other countries in regards to that. Still give the option for the children to learn all basic knowledge. Focus on Bermuda College. Add vocational schools.

When it comes to education the PLP have barely put a foot right in 20 years. For all the promises of helping kids, Bermudians we must all accept that Warwick, BHS, MSA etc are miles ahead of the government schools, despite the promises.

If you can afford to send your kids to private schools, you will, and over the past 20 years this minister has shown himself as ineffective as any that have gone before.

Even the staunchest green sees this, surely.

We were all were children once.

I went through the H.M. Dockyard School system here we were taught by strick Naval officers, it was war time then.

The head master introduced to the cane ... Mr.Oswald twice.

I can remember staying up to 10 pm doing home work and then getting up at 6 am to finishing off all the asignments from different teachers , that was a 9 hour day.

I often wonder if teachers to day have fill the role of parents who come home from work exhausted.

Both my parents were there to encourage me and my brother.

My father was exceptional good a math , however some of the problems were very complex.

I have written many an essay on every topic under the sun i wonder why i an not a poet.

Nothing has changed the children of today are put under just much pressure starting from kindergarden to make the grade.

Bermuda's sub tropical climate does not help much compared to children living in colder climates with long evenings we did not have T.V. and other distractions.

Will some one define memory, what good is it if teachers fill the bucket with sand.

The exam room is nothing short of a mind altering childrens torture chamber .

50 years ago we were a tourist destination offering silver service. Bermudian worked alongside Europeans in offering that silver service. Then, in the 1970s and 1980s, when double digit inflation abounded, we priced ourselves out of the market. Now, 30 years later, Bermudians do not want to serve anyone.

EDUCATION

This word education was used 50 year ago to define which one of two children was the better and who could acheived scolastic achievment with out even trying.

Children back then were deemed to be educated if they could remember the phone book.

We now have Computers Calculatore and Comunications.

Enter stage left "the Academic" capable of every thing on paper, unfortunately in the real world virtully a useless individual.

Versatility will win out every time , not if teachers only taught and still teach academics .

Teachers were good on the chalk board but were not practical and versatile.

We need to devide education into speciality departmental schools only at the senior level.

Ever wonder why we were given two hands , if we were good with our hands and blesses with some common sence and could hold a pencil we had posibilities.

Ever wounder how we got to where we are today? HANDS ON !

Regardless of which trade or vocation we chose we would never be out of work . Many people were capable of other skills which was to their advantage.

Two tallents/ skills are always better than one.

We need to ask out selves which way should Bermuda be heading, what is on the horizon?

If we can't figure that out , all we can do is what we do best .

Here is the catch !

We have got to do it better. The anwser to that is $$$ MARKETING $$$.

Bermuda is a service industry and always will be , only, if we are better at it than the others.

Where does all this fit into modern society, this is a question of balance we can not survive with a nation of bean counters.

Absolutely. Let's go back to the way things were before 1995. Sandys Sec. will be a secondary school again. Whitney will be a secondary school again. Warwick Sec. will not be a sick building anymore. Hooray!

Oh, what will become of our "mega school" as the PLP called it back in the 1990s?
