Minister Furbert, can I just say at least you are trying, however, with the general sour attitude of the staff in the Post Office and the general disregard for customer service, I say that you have no chance to improve and increase service within the organisation. Bermuda in general has lost the ability to understand what customer service really means. Very sad and I see no improvement on the horizon unless it comes from the very top.

This is part of the problem with the PLP Government, it does not understand basic economics or the principles of supply and demand. It knows only to keep “born Bermudians” employed and how to amass power

“It is general industry knowledge that the postal sector globally has seen declines in traditional letter mail products while e-commerce packages and competition in the market is increasingly growing with changing customer demands,” Minister Furbert said.

And it is common knowledge in Bermuda that it can take weeks for letter to get from Hamilton Post Office to Mangrove Bay or Warwick Post Office.

The bulk of the problem in Bermuda is Bermudian. Pointing to problems overseas will never address the made-in-Bermuda structural problems with our Post Office

Expenses of $10.5m and revenue of $4m. Revenue has fallen because of less mail. Less mail should mean less people. Less people less expenses. No different to most other Government departments – it has an expense problem. Competing against the private sector is not the job of Government. If it is then lets privatize most Government services and let the market find the right levels of price and service.
