It’s worse than “we’re broke”. We stopped paying into the sinking fund some years ago. Our Finance Minister said we needed that money to fund current expenses.

That means we will not have the money we need to pay down on the capital when our debts fall due. For a person that would mean bankruptcy.

There isn’t any, we’re broke. We spend more than we make and we have the millstone of massive debt.

So, we now spend, presumably, $20m less. We still spend more than we make. But here’s the thing, anyone with a functioning brain cell has known since 2001 that we needed to trim the CS. It was, it is, and always has been unsustainable. THe PLP clowns have finally figured it out. Idiots.

More creative accounting to make it look as if the tax payers are benefitting. The $20m is not savings, it was a budgeted future expense, needing more debt to pay it, not an actual expense that has been reduced.

About bloody time, only 14 years too late. We all know the CS is over staffed and bloated way beyond our needs.

Need also to make the CD accountable, performance based remuneration. The good Minister, is that with a handful of exceptions, the public already has low expectations of service.
