Correct. The difference now is that all of our oldies and vulnerable are vaccinated, and an increasing number of the rest. SO, the overall population risk must have decreased. Right? So far it seems, that children <16 and youth are asymptomatic and less likely to develop critical symptoms.

So, I guess, my question is do we really care that it's spreading in children, and is the real reason for the increase in cases that we are testing more children. In other words, there's no reliable baseline for children so we don't know if things are worse or not.

Actually if someone had it say asymptomatic and was with others it just spread back and forth. We locked down for like 2-2.5 weeks or so the research they had said that the virus could live on surfaces for 14 days as well as that was the incubation period before symptoms became apparent. The Us has studies that it spread more in the lockdowns. It also said that the virus was unlikely to spread outdoors.

Roads getting fixed on this island? Lol.

In North America you see highways made for hot summers and freezing winters getting 100s of miles done in mere weeks.

In Bermuda you watch as crews with far more people than necessary take 4+ months to do 2 miles of far small roads, while closing them the entire time to the public. See: Current situation in Devil’s Hole which has been ongoing since when, around September?

Got an outrageous number of Gov. employees, but never seem to get anything done and somehow don’t have the budget for proper trash collection, roadside maintenance, etc. so I doubt we have the budget for fixing the roads themselves.

Got the budget to give away 800k to some artist, or however many millions we are overpaying for Zane DeSilva’s buildings, and whatever else we don’t know about.

No the whole point of lockdown was not JUST SO THAT THE HOSPITAL WOULDN’T BE OVERWHELMED. It was to also STOP THE TRANSMISSION as much as possible. How can you not see or know that? Nobody moves, gives it someone else and no one gets sick. It worked to a point.

And yes we are in a different situation than a year ago: I would say a worse situation! All you need to do is look at the numbers. The daily numbers a year ago were not like this. Even the numbers in December were not like this and we were really concerned about how that was going to roll out. Those daily numbers hovered around 20 – 25 people per day. This wave is double those numbers: 40 – 50 per day. Today, March 29, will be ugly.

I’m like you….I want to this to resolve quickly. I’ve got a small business that requires me to be out and about but it’s been dreadful year. If you’ve been following the rules, then you’ve been doing the right thing. But I’m going to also ask that you get the facts right and get them from credible places. I don’t believe any of this “people better wake up” or “Govt control” nonsense. Go away. I believe the science. 1+1=2 not 9.

Regardless, the whole point of “lockdown” was to prevent the hospital being overwhelmed. That isn’t happening.

And I’m a rule follower – not breaking curfew, holding parties, going maskless, and I’m now being punished (along with many others).

My question is why? We’re in a different situation than we were a year ago.

You have your facts wrong. We are not at 50% vaccination rate. As of a few days ago, we were at 20% of the population who have received both doses. Look for the graphic, it’s out there.You also shouldn’t be assuming ANYTHING. Why you even assume with this virus?
And two days ago lots of people were moaning that no one was hospitalised and so yeah we should be doing what we want. Now that one person is hospitalised, it’s still not good enough for you. I hope you aren’t related to that person who is hospitalised. I’m sure their family is full of worries while you bang on about “losing your mind”.

Seriously, if we only have one hospitalized case, most of the vulnerable have been vaccinated and we have approaching 50% vaccination rate, presumably the public health risk is decreasing? I’m also assuming that we’re testing more and testing more kids who are largely asymptomatic.

Unless government shows it is willing to punish those who have been shown to be breaking existing regulations they have no right to punish us all.

One of my biggest concerns is all the persons who hang out in Mangrove Bay Area. I go past there several times a day and they are all there huddled together no masks and definitely no social distancing and most from different households. The police also go by there at least 20 times a day why don’t they disperse them and if they keep coming back arrest. Last week Thursday there had to be at least 25 or more all having a great time. This is definitely a super spreader and nothing done about it, JUST SAYING

Okay, so if the vaccine doesn’t prevent me from catching it and doesn’t prevent me from spreading it and only gives me a better chance of survival if I STILL catch it after being vaccinated, then why should it matter if I get vaccinated or not? If all I am risking is my own death from not being vaccinated then why should anyone else care if I choose to risk my own death?

I can still catch covid AFTER being vaccinated and I can still spread covid AFTER being vaccinated. So why should I get vaccinated? My own death is my business and no one else’s.

It is easy to demonize these party goers, but this also has dangers. Was that party wrong, stupid and utterly irresponsible? Absolutely, and all attendees need to be prosecuted. But heaping all the blame on them ignores other avenues that should be explored fully. Time and again it has been proven that making one group responsible means that others feel absolved and somehow ‘better’ than that demonized group. See AIDS, for example. (An extreme comparison with massive differences, of course.) But rest assured this virus will take any host at any time and every single person needs to see themselves as a potential spreader. To blame these people exclusively is understandable but it limits, and possibly harms, the island’s ability to tackle the alarming increase in cases.

IMO this latest wave can be tracked to two factors. Government being incapable of the simple matter of making it mandatory for returning residents to quarantine for 14 days in a secure facility. It worked last summer, but this “mobile” quarantine is a joke and the massive increases shows it. The second was failure to enforce the large group restrictions. No penalties apparently. All we get is the Health Minister sounding like a broken record. Government has failed miserably.
Clearly there are 2 Bermuda’s. One is that part of the population that complies with the restrictions, and the other who don’t care but these idiots have created the situation we’re now in and have suffered no penalties.
