That isn’t even half way to our goal of 44,800 people. Yet “this is very good news indeed”? (Minister Wilson)

Ok I think majority of you can’t read it says 70% of the population needs to vaccinated which they say is 64,000. We don’t have that many people in this country so what are you talking about with 1 or 2 shots has nothing to do with the statement made. Learn to read before you criticize my comment. We don’t have 43k vaccinated people, we have 45k shots in arms – which counts individual jabs for those who have 2 shots and those who have had 1. The number of individual people comes down a lot if you don’t count shot #2. When they say 70% of our population, the 64k number noted is supposed to be the total population number, not 70% of the population.

No, the 45,000 number is the total number of shots that have been given. That’s 19,800 people fully immunized (so 39,700 shots) plus a further 5,700ish with only one shot so far. (Clear as mud)

I believe, in an effort to bolster their statistics they are reporting individual vaccinations.
So that 46,000 is a combination of doubles and singles leading to their percentages of 31% with two vaccination and 9% with one.

I think you’re missing the obvious point that you need 2 shots to be fully vaccinated. The 45K number includes double doses so the actual number of vaccinated people is lower.

The way they present the numbers is a bit confusing but 45,761 vaccines administered does not equal 45,761 people. Nor does 40% one dose + 31% two dose equal 71% of the population. A majority of the 46k doses are people that have had two shots so the real number is in the low-mid 20K or around a third of the population. Still a ways to get to 70% which seems unlikely given the vaccines are now available to all adults.

They’re counting number of shots, and immunization is achieved through two shots plus two weeks. Two shots needed per person. So when looking at the numbers, divide the number of shots administered by two and turns out their numbers are accurate.

I think it probably means we have received 45,000 doses, many of which have been second doses. So the number of people who have received shots is actually much lower.
But it’s as clear as mud, like all these stats. Pointless and misleading numbers.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the 70% number either. It’s not like a switch flips magically and ‘herd immunity’ suddenly happens. Most more sophisticated countries are being pretty vague about the ‘actual’ number, which will vary (i.e. increase) according to the transmissibility of variants. I’ve seen estimates it needs to be more like 85-90%, because new variants are more easily spread.
None of which has ever been considered by this lot.

In the above statement, is 70% of the population 64,054 people/persons? If so, that makes Bermuda’s population over 90,000 people/persons. Did I miss the news story celebrating nearly 30k new births in the last few months?

Or, is Bermuda’s population 64.054, and when 70%, or 44,837, are vaccinated, we will have achieved herd immunity?

Does this mean Bermuda has 19,217 people/persons under the age of 16? Cause if we don’t, we can’t achieve herd immunity, unless you start jabbing your children.

I believe Bermuda has an aging population (part of the reason why we are in such an economic mess), so maybe we will achieve herd immunity after all.

Well done us. Are we allowed to pat ourselves on the back under these current restrictions?

These numbers are wrong, our population is 62,098. So, that means we need 43,468 people to be vaccinated. Which we have already…the numbers our government is giving us is for a country with a population of 95,000.
