Wow "Lynn" what a remarkable experience you and your son had while visiting in 1884. Thank you for sharing your vivid experiences as a guest worker while here please elaborate on some points that stood out to you. As a foreigner did you experience xenophobia?

This was such an informative and important explanation of the obvious racial inequalities in Bermuda. I lived there for a couple years and fortunately spent most of my time in St. David’s so I was protected from being exposed too often to what I perceived was an extremely racist and divided island. I’ve lived in many places in the world. But what was the biggest shock for me was when my son came to visit and did an Internship for six weeks and he pointed out how much racial disparity there was and how he discerned so much racism in Bermuda. Yes there’s racism in many places but I’m happy to see CURB taking the time to address the historical foundations of the racial issues that definitely should be addressed. It’s do not BVI out the group is trying to explain that yes charitable donations are appreciated but let’s ensure it’s being used to repair the right things in the right places. The comments by those on this thread are so indicative of the racist attitudes. It’s not surprising they hide behind such ridiculous monikers. I’m literally shaking my head in disgust.

An interesting history lesson from CURB. I attended one of their workshops a few months ago and it was also a great perspective on the past. Unfortunately however, as usual CURB is stuck in the past. While understanding the past is critical, I think they can better serve the country by charting a path forward.

I don't see any suggestion in their statement that Clarien's intentions are wrong. CURB only attacks the details not the intention. On this basis perhaps CURB/SJB's social media aggression would be better spent on all the other companies that are doing nothing to bridge the gap going forward? Attacking the only company bold enough to take public action seems like a sure way to prevent other companies from trying to do the same. Once bitten, twice shy...

There is room for improvement on all sides in this situation. Hopefully CURB/SJB understand this or they will perpetuate the divide under the premise of reducing it. Working together is the path forward!

"Their donation overlooks key historical context that, when considered, reveals the limitations of their strategy, and requires us to grapple with what authentic reparative justice and equity looks like in practical terms and how this should inform charitable giving that is meant to assist black Bermudians."

Ahh, I see we are back to reparations. Who does CURB suggest make those reparations?

So the fact remains that the Clarien group can choose to spend their charitable money however they want. If they had not included "black" in their release there would be nothing for sjb and curb to cry about.

Move on curb, most of us understand and are ready to make Bermuda a great place to live for everyone.
