I read that as “the Union has called on members to not to obey the lawful instruction of their employer”

These Unions are working in their own selfish interests yet ask for public support. Present union leaders of Bermuda are failing on so many levels & it’s scary to think of where we would be without the work of the founding leaders & members of the union. Unions need to get back to their core values to look out for the interest of Bermudians as a whole, fight for what should be fought for, let go of petty issues & undefendable incidents.

As for the teachers, they need to reflect on themselves & really evaluate the bigger picture here. Should one of the teachers test positive, the ministry would have time to work a solution to that teacher’s absence. However, if the tests aren’t done until the 4th, not only are they putting students & other teachers at potential risk, there is also no time to work out other solutions to that teacher being potentially unavailable for a period of at least 2 weeks.

Don’t the students also have to be tested during this same Christmas break? With most being too young to take themselves to be tested in which a parent has to accompany them? So, if the rest of us are doing our part, what makes you feel that only your personal time is important?

This is outrageous. Where is the professionalism? Jan 4 tests are too late in the event that a teacher tests positive but may not know it by the time students return on the 5th. They’re not being asked to do anything time consuming or onerous – just to take a test in the interest of protecting their students and themselves!
