More deception from the PLP.
Surely people can recall scarcely a year ago we had si I’m ilar issues with the workers revolting because they did not have enough vehicles to maintain the service.
I spoke with one longterm employee who was suggesting if they don’t have a full fleet they should stay in the yard, while suggested even if you only had a few trucks they should be working.
At the end of the day this is what the majority voted for so I have no pity for those who want to complain now. The PLP showed you who they were in their first term yet you voted them back in. Since then near every prospect of the country has been in decline.

The problem is with budget allocation. For decades managers within the civil service have prioritised wages over maintenance. If a Government Department does not get all the money it wants it will make sure that workers get paid overtime rather then buy the necessary parts for its trucks or buses to keep running.

This has been a decades old problem, not only with the trash trucks but with many vehicles in the Government fleet. It is high time for government to do something about it.

Why does the Corporation of Hamilton not have issues with their vehicles? What about BELCO? Digicel? One Comm? BAC or any of the other fleet operators?

So the problem must be with the expertise (or lack thereof) of the staff or their work ethics. Could the problem be with the supervisors?

Government needs to farm out the servicing of their vehicles. Sure, the basic cost would seem higher but when you subtract the wages/salaries of the non-performing, now redundant staff and the increase availability of all vehicles, there will certainly be cost effectiveness in the result.
